Sewing Pattern - Period Patterns number 93, Bags, Purses and Pouches, c. 650-1650. Bags, purses and pouches were essential when the use of pockets in clothing was unknown, only the rich had secure storage for their small valuable items. As with other necessary items of clothing specialized pouches developed, such as hunting bags (to hold game); pilgrim's bags (big enough to carry everything necessary for a long journey); and gaming pouches, to hold dice and other game pieces. Period Patterns number 93, Bags, Purses and Pouches, c. 650-1650, contains 23 general methods for making purses and attached pouches, dagger hangers, etc. It also has patterns for 46 specific bags, pouches and purses. Complex but period-accurate accessories
This pattern is not your typical "use shapes 1, 3, 4 and 7" variety we get for modern handbags. It is, however, an excellent resource for creating period-appropriate bags of many sizes and shapes. I used the concepts and the construction techniques to make several items and am very pleased with the results. Only experienced seamstresses should purchase this pattern, however.

Ugh.
This pattern ... Though I'm intelligent, directions are so confusing, the history aspect is great but I knew the history, it's why I purchased in the first place. This pattern, whoever made it, should have looked at other patterns to get an idea how it's done. Whoever produced this pattern should be fired

Lots of patterns but instructions poorly written
This is an expensive pattern but there are about 42 different items so it’s a good value. I thought the instructions were very confusing - requires referencing other pattern instructions and a series of various methods which often left big gaps in the instructions. Probably best for those already proficient in sewing who just need pattern pieces.

Period Patterns No93
Not a bad set of patterns, the instructions are not very easy to understand, which piece is which is a little confusing with all the roman numerals and then letters for pieces could have been simpler.

A very good pattern book that I haven't really gotten a try ...
A very good pattern book that I haven't really gotten a try at yet, but am looking forward to doing so. Designs are designed for primarily cloth, so some alteration for leather is needed to be functional.
