Important for windows 10 and linux users!
This alfa antenna has worked well for Linux use as well as for regular surfing and work on windows 10. However, this network adapter will work with Linux but as a windows 10 host machine I was required to setup my linux virtual box as a NAT network setting instead of bridged network setting. Upon then I set USB to 3.0. I also set a usb filter.I clicked add new and chose the default one that came up for my adapter. I started up linux. After I proceeded to start up linux, I plugged in my adapter and everything is auto configured to work. Everything from forums to help websites could not solve this problem for me and I almost gave up. After messing around for 3 days I got the adapter to work with both machines but not simultaneously. The network card will work for whichever machine you have started up when you plug it in. I.E. if you start up your computer then plug it in you will be working with it on windows 10 and not linux. If you go in and start up linux before you plug it in it will configure to work with Linux automatically. Other than this problem listed above the card has given me a great network connection while also supporting monitor mode with packet injection with both machines.

This actually does work well on a Pi
I'm using these things to extend the wifi range from a base station to drones. I use a battery-powered router as the base station and connect a GCS (Solex, Tower, QGC, etc) to the drone over UDP. The vehicles have Raspberry Pis running SolexCC on them, which (among other things) performs a mapping between Mavlink messages and UDP. Using the Pi's stock Wifi, the range is unsurprisingly not very good. With these, I can maintain a connection to a ground vehicle even after it drives around to the other side of a small hill and the other side of my house. The only downside I've discovered is that it's hard to fit this device under the canopy of my copter, but that's more an issue of the copter being narrow and already packed full of stuff under there. To make this work with the Pi, all you need to do is blacklist the internal wifi driver and plug this into one of the USB ports. It then becomes wlan0. You'll be able to tell it's working when the blue light on it blinks rapidly after you boot the Pi.

Atheros greatness
I find signal level to be a bit spotty with any omnidirectional antenna. However, when I attach a 10dbi directional antenna, it's consistent and strong. My AWUS036NH buries the needle with omnidirectional though. This baby gets 5 stars because it's very fairly priced and has the coveted Atheros chipset. I've been a Linux enthusiast for 5 years. I recommend this with the AWUS036NH. 🔥 for long range evil twin tests. Note: this is one of very few adapters that is capable of master mode.

this thing does what is advertised
this thing does what is advertised. definitely was able to find more wifi in the surrounding area. the signal strength of existing wifi also increased. i have a public hotspot near my home. it is not in a line of sight. before the alfa, i can connect to the hotspot but it was very spotty. the connection would drop frequently and download speed was dismal. after connecting with this product, the signal went from 1-2 bars to 3 bars. connection is stable and download speed although not as good as my home network, it is very usable. download speed is about 7.6Mbps. keep in mind, this is a public hotspot, i have no way of knowing what is the normal max download speed. still that's 7.6Mbps of stable connection i would not have access to if it wasn't for this product.i also got the longer 9dBi antenna with this package. i'm not sure how much better the 9dBi is. i haven't ran any test and compared stats. at first glance, the out of the box 5dBi also showed the same public hotspot with 3 bars. since i bought the package that included the 9dBi antenna. that's what i'm using now. overall, i'm very satisfied. i am curious to see how the signal fares when the weather is bad. winter is coming so that will be the final test. as for durability, which is part of this review... how can anyone comment on that?! it's brand new out of the box. i should hope that, the unit will survive the warranty period. there's no way i can review on durability. if the question is on how well the adapter is built and the material it uses. well, it's plastic! it's light! unit does not get hot. but the transmitting and receiving blue light flashes and it a bit annoying.

The two antennas that come with it are awesome especially the larger one
I have an AWUS036NH set up to work with my Opensuse desktop(realtek chip) and I purchased the AWUS036NHA for my laptop. I plugged it in the desktop and it worked right away with no configuration required. I have read on other forums that the chip(atheros) is more friendly for Linux distros. I have used it lightly but haven't came across any problems thus far. The two antennas that come with it are awesome especially the larger one, picks up signal from 10-11 houses lol! The only thing I wish that it came with in the package would be a nice zipper pouch to keep it stowed away. Overall happy and recommend to anyone that really wants to improve their wifi signal.

Another counterfeit.
I previously bought one of these from a Seller named DBROTH, and it was counterfeit. The Serial number/MAC stickers on the box didn't match the one on the card. And ifconfig showed a completely different MAC address. So this time around I bought from a different seller. Or so I thought. Again it came from DBROTH. This time around the packaging was different. BUT the serial number / MAC sticker matched on the box and the card so I thought it was good. Fired up the laptop and checked it and BAM different mac address, and just like last time the MAC prefix doesn't come back to any known vendor. The only plus side is that it does report an AR9271 chipset so it should work, but like the other reviews this is hard locked to 20 db. I haven't done too much testing with it since it just arrived today, but I did want to get the word out that this is the second counterfeit card of this model that I have bought and both times it came from the seller DBROTH even though the second one displayed another name when I added it to my cart.
