On Broken Wings ~ It's All A Long Goodbye
C**)
Medicore At Best
Review by Tyler Wagnon:The main problem that has kept On Broken Wings in the second or third tier of metalcore acts is their inconsistent songwriting. It's All a Long Goodbye does a better job at keeping things cohesive, but it still has its flaws.Yes, we know you guys like to play a breakdown, and then play it again slower. On occasion, it can be a very cool and effective touch when a band does that, especially if the breakdown is a real whopper. It doesn't need to be on EVERY breakdown though. Seriously.Vocally, they are far from perfect. The clean singing is terrible and unnecessary... flat out. Please never try it again. Please. Also, the death growls are extremely breathy and weak. If you can't do the vocals with any force, don't do them at all.Overall, the music is pretty decent though. Most of the breakdowns are pretty befitting, the rhythms are pretty much on part, but nothing spectacular. Their metal riffs could be beefed up a bit because they tend to go into European territory too much which sinks them even further into the background of today's musical landscape.I was really hoping they would have made more strides in the right direction on this one, but oh well, perhaps they are doomed to mediocrity. It's sad when that happens to a band, but it happens quite a bit.

i have TRIED...
..To like this band. ive tried and tried and tried. but this band just doesn't add up to their contemporaries. On broken wings is in a way a poor mans converge. The vocals sound a lot like converge, but weaker . Im not trying to talk trash about this band, I respect them. its just not my kind of metalcore. the breakdowns are unoriginal and get boring quickly. the song titles are weird and kind of stupid actually. I was bored by track 3.Okay I guess but remembering never owns the metalcore scene IMO.

I gotta give it five stars
This album may be more like 4 1/2 stars just because it doesn't top the brilliance of "Some of Us May Never See the World", however this is a very solid breakdown heavy album. The first two tracks sound a lot like typical OBW except faster, heavier and more breakdowns. Check out the last breakdown at the end of "Pushing Up Daisies" for true violent breakdown action. The next track "More than Life" shows off OBW's emo side, which was very present on "#1 Beautiful". Yet again OBW re-does their famous songs "I Do My Crosswords in Pen", and "Listless" with the production better than ever, and the sound heavier than ever. The second half of the CD is better with some of the most brutal mosh attacks by OBW ever, check out "Tongue in Teeth", "Hell or High Water", and "Deadpool" to see what I'm talking about. All in all, this is a solid mosh heavy disc from OBW. My only complaint would be I wish they added more to their sound, as this sounds a lot like their old CD. However, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, and this is a great album for picking a fight with a stranger to.

Straightforward
This album is pretty up front - lots of breakdowns and riffage going on, even some singing at points. What really makes this album sound like its own is the production - it sounds rather raw, but everything comes in crystal clear, giving it this warm, analogish sound. The music is breakdown-happy, with lots of downtuned riffs and even some singing to boot. The only problems with this record are that most of the songs sort of just blend together...allowing each song to lose some of its "identity" if you will. Also, some of the breakdowns are very bland - that simple chug chug chug is great sometimes, but it doesn't need to be in every song. However, that doesn't mean it's totally generic - this is a strong release by a great band who I very much want to see in a live setting in the near future. Top songs include "Suffer", "Pushing Up Daisies", "More Than Life", and the re-recorded "I Do My Crosswords in Pen".

Good but not great
I love OBW and couldn't wait to get their new labum. I listened to it and thought to myself that it all sounds like 1 big song. The album is heavy and full of breakdowns but even with the minor singing parts this album feels to repetitive. If you like OBW's old cd you'll like this one also.

Craptacular CD Of The Year
This cd is by far the worst piece of crap ever. Whatever the guys in this band are trying to be macho-core, our metal-core, our hardcore, doesn't matter because they suck. The singer has a horrible voice to begin with and then he tries to sing with death metal type growl, which is terrible, coming from him. Then their are a few clean choruses that suck as well. This cd is nothing more than a long breakdown (letdown). The musicians obviously seen a music video or heard something and thought they could play as well. Any worthwhile bands obviously have not influenced the musicians in this band nor have they taken any much-needed lessons to learn how to play there instruments. How and why is such crap like this produced and released onto the public?TO THE MEMBERS OF THE BAND:PLEASE DO NOT RELEASE ANOTHER ALBUM.YOU GUYS TRULY SUCK AND SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF MAKING SUCH A CRAPTACULAR ALBUM.
