Great book on the War to End all Wars
I have quite a few books on WW1 & this one is a fine addition. Great quality of pictures & about the only thing missing are photos of the aviators & the war at sea. WW1 to the British is what WWII is to the Americans. The last picture sums up war quite well. Buy this book if you like history & this era.

Really an excellent book. I have been trying to read and view books on WWI in advance of the centennial. I purchased some far more expensive photo histories. This book not only had more unique/ personal photos taken by soldiers ....I appreciated the quotes from soldiers and others from the time. I would absolutely recommend this book if you are thinking about a WWI book. It is a terrific value.

An Anglocentric Photo History of the Great War
I am a collector of Great War photo histories. "The Faces of World War One" was written for the British market and in turn 2/3 of the photos are about Great Britain and its soldiers and civilians. If you are looking for a history of the Great War, look somewhere else. Most of the photo descriptions are a short paragraph and lack much detail as to where and when the photo was taken. The good thing about this book is that most of the photos are printed one to a page. There is a lot of detail and the production values in the printing are high. Most of the photos come from the Imperial War Museum and many of the images are familiar to serious students of the Great War. If you can get this book at a reasonable price, buy it. You will not be disappointed.

Beautifully Made
My husband's Grandfather is on the inside cover and in other pictures. His Dad stumbled upon it in the library- so we had to buy one. When our used copy came in the mail, it was signed by the author. I am moved by the patriotism and sacrifice of the Men in the photos. May they rest in peace.

Photos are incredible. Very detailed for the period. I had never seen many of the images before. Many that I had saw before had captions that helped put them more into context.

The Faces of World War I: The Great War in Words and Pictures
An amazing book. The pictures often overpower the text. The quality of the printing sometimes rivals the best photo monographs I have seen. I have been throuh the book only once and I know there is much more waiting to be discovered.

Heartbreaking study of war
This book grabs one by the guts and doesn't let go, even long after the last page has been turned. This is war close up, men seen without romance, dirty and real, dead and dying. Not for the faint of heart, it is a vivid collection that should belong in the library of any student of war.
