Purgatory - less is much more
I watched an interesting movie about the life and times of Harry Nilsson Who is Harry Nilsson (And Why is Everyone Talking About Him)?. Based on this I bought this very nicely priced 3CD set that originated with Sony Poland. The sound is excellent but there are no sleeve notes. The notable songs "1941", "Everybody's Talkin'", "One'," Coconut ", "You're Breakin' My Heart" are here along with absolutely awful renditions of "River Deep, Mountain High" (why?), "Let the Good Times Roll"etc. CD3 contains excruciatingly bad remakes of "Over The Rainbow" etc and is prime coffee coaster material. The movie presents Nilsson as a widely unappreciated artist who history has inappropriately forgotten. These CDs confirm that despite his hits - hey even Tiny Tim and Napoleon XIV could hit the charts - the remainder of his music has all the tweeness of Paul McCartney at his very worst. His later output seems to constitute remakes of Randy Newman's catalog where he does a second rate imitation. There are few CD sets in my collection that I wish were single EPs, this is one of them - less of Nilssen is definitely more.

"All I Think About Is You" is an awesome tune.
I am a huge fan of Harry. I could not disagree more with the review that dislikes Harry's takes on standards (CD3). I think it was a bold move at the time. However it derailed his career but ironically solidified his legacy. I do agree that Harry had a few lackluster albums after A LITTLE TOUCH OF SCHMILSSON; "All I Think About Is You" is an awesome tune.

I find this box with 3 discs being the best you can get if you really want to know Harry Nilsson. I am so happy to have found it. Never get tired ofall his melodies with smart lyrics. He was a genius. He should have lived now. I was borne one month later the same year as he was. I'm still alive, 74 yrs old. Too many of the best there was died too young, right?

Surprised me as to how many popular songs he wrote in the 60/70's that I loved but had no idea he was connected to them. If you loved his music that made the charts, you'll enjoy this CD

A este precio es un cd que no puede dejarse escapar. Echo en falta una de las canciones más bonitas de Harry, "Remember", pero el resto, magníficas y buen recopilatorio.

Triplo cd con la masterizzazione originale. C'è quasi tutto per conoscere una delle voci più belle e sconosciute ai tanti.Piacevole nella grafica interna. Economico, quasi un regalo. Consigliatissimo.
