Better than most reviewers have indicated, a great value considering the total package.
I have owned a few robot vacuums, most of them from Ecovacs and have been mostly happy with those purchases. Before this unit, my main floor Deebot was the 900, which has been retired to upstairs area. The main thing that drew me to the 900 was one of the first lidar based robots which did a pretty good job over the last few years avoiding obstacles, but it was never perfect even after years of updates. I was very reluctant to trust that the new models have come much further, but I can say I was happily wrong. Initial unboxing and setup was straight forward, especially if you have ever used any robot vacuums. It was interesting to see the auto empty unit was already loaded with a vacuum bag, but others have noted the same thing. It is very possible they quality test the unit in the factory and load the first bag for this test. Not an issue. I placed the auto empty station next to the older 900 unit and its dock, and docked the N8 Pro+ robot after attaching the 2 side sweeping brushes and removing the protection sleeves with the pull tabs. Powered on the toggle switch and the unit indicated it was charging. I used the QR code found under the top cover to download the app (different from the old Ecovacs Deebot app, the Ecovacs Deebot 2017 app, and now called Ecovacs Home). The newer UI on the most recent app is more intuitive and better tools for map managing than the older 2 apps were. This was a welcome finding that they have updated this. The app setup is a bit annoying it that it wants to map the house before any other options are available, so just note setting up no go "walls", rooms, new names, etc are not shown on the UI until the completion of the first cleaning run. Also to note, make sure you have the auto empty station dock flat against a wall that is somehow perpendicular to your house design. This was a major headache if you don't do this. What I mean is if your house is mostly a rectangle or square layout, make sure the wall you start with is 90 degrees to your home layout and not against a wall that is diagonal or circular to your house layout, otherwise, your home map will be weirdly placed on the map it generates forever and all time. You cannot (under the latest version as of 5-28-21) rotate the map once it is generated and the robot/app situates the map of the home based off the angles it detects on first undocking. So if the wall behind the dock isnt flat and perpendicular to the other walls, it may layout your map diagonally. This may not seem like any particular issue until you go to edit your map, generate zones, place no go walls, etc, because the map only uses rectangles to set zones and no mop areas and if you map is off on a diagonal direction, you will have no way to easily set these areas other than virtual no go "walls" which can be diagonal. This seems like a very big oversight and something that could easily be fixed, but there is no current provision for this and will force you to reset the entire map and start all over again. Not the end of the world, but quite an annoyance if you are not aware of what is going on. Hopefully this saves someone that pain. Now for my first cleaning. That main reason I wanted to get this unit is the improved obstacle detection. I hate having to prepare the house for a run so that it doesnt get stuck anywhere only to come find it got stuck and a large reason my last vac didnt just run on a constant schedule. In a large home (4000 sqft) with 2 kids and a dog, it was really awful to assume it would run nonstop without issue. The old unit had horrible times with anything dangling from any possible reach. It was also bad about getting hung up on low pass areas under coffee tables, end tables, etc. This unit happily is not having those issues. The front sensors seem a lot more capable of sensing things it cant fit under perfectly and the map allowed to easily prevent any future (investigations) of those areas where it would only find it couldnt fit. Be very aware, it is known that the first mapping pass takes MUCH longer for the unit to finish and will almost always not happen in the first go and require a recharge and resume. This is as designed as the unit takes extra time to map the area more closely. Once a map exists, the unit will traverse a lot more efficiently and take less time to investigate areas. I did notice this unit struggled slightly more than the 900 with tall rugs, at least at first, but then somehow it seemed to "learn" something and employ a turn around backup maneuver to get up on the rug in reverse since it has more clearance, turn around, and proceed to clean the rest of the rug (a tall pile rug on hard wood floor). I thought at first this would be a fluke, and it just happened to get up on the carpet this way, but multiple cleanings and it still does this to get over the lip of the tall pile rug. I really like the new mapping feature that detects carpet versus hardwood/tile and puts this on the map, even door mats that are carpet. This causes the vacuum to increase suction while over these areas which is a very welcomed feature. My family has already noted, this one if much quieter than the 900 and any other vacuum we have ever used while running. Slight increase over carpet, but being that it is now over carpet, not that audible since it is dampened by the carpet itself. Battery life, many indicate how this has less battery capacity then the last unit, and this is true, but I feel this is a cost cutting measure and not something that is a real issue with the unit. In my opinion, this unit is used differently from before as you can let it run more constant scheduling since it is more capable and can auto empty. When you free your mind to this concept and use it that way, battery life is much less an issue. On the initial run, it needed another charge to finish the entire 1st floor, but subsequent runs can finish on 1 run as it takes 84 minutes to complete the whole floor with some room to spare. If you schedule rooms alternating, etc, you should never run into an issue. The do not disturb times allow you to set this and sort of forget it. Just check the vac bag in the unit from time to time for fullness. One thing I want to mention from the old unit, the old unit was HORRIBLE at returning to the dock to charge, the N8 Pro+ is a lot better at finding the way back to the dock. The old unit would sometimes go in the opposite direction to get home first and sometimes run out of power while trying to find its way back. This unit generally drives right to it. Much better.

Good suction and mapping, worthless emptying. Only good for superficial cleaning
We had an older Deebot that worked fine for five years. But it was completely manual and it was really tiresome to have to empty it manually every time. So I was really looking forward to upgrading to one of the self emptying ones. I figured that those have been around for long enough that all bugs would have been worked out of that system and that they would be working reliably. What a crushing disappointment! This thing pretends to empty every time and sure enough you hear the heavy suction from the base unit when you tell it to empty. But hardly anything gets pulled out of the dirt container. See photos below. These are all taken after the supposed self emptying. When you look at it more carefully you realize that this is a serious engineering failure. Dirt is supposed to be sucked out through two tiny openings on either side of the canister. So when the emptying suction starts, instead of having it all focused on a single large opening, you have two small ones that are fighting each other for suction. It doesn’t take a genius to see that if the dirt has one large opening in the middle to come in but only two small ones on the side for it to get sucked out, you will never achieve success. You can see on the middle photo that the two sides are somewhat empty but the center is still completely full. On top of that the way the roller is designed, there are two metal bars that seem to be designed specifically to get tangled with any dog hair they can find. This means that even if the dust bin was getting emptied properly, you still have to open up the machine each time to clean up the rollers. What is the point in paying over $700 for a machine that doesn’t do half of what it pretends to do? Then there is the false claim that this machine automatically does vacuuming and mopping. Not true at all since you have to set it up differently for vacuuming versus for mopping. On top of that, since a large amount of space is taken by the water tank, that means that the dirt tank is that much smaller. I really had great hope for hassle free robotic vacuuming at last. And since our previous Deebot had done well, I wanted to stay with ECOVACS. But this one really fails on what it pretends to do. On the positive side, the mapping seems very good and the vacuuming part seems good as well. So, if you do not have a dog and only need light duty dusting, this might work for you.

Mediocre vacuum but wonderful company to work with..
Update: While I’m still not impressed with the vacuum, I am very impressed with the seller and their customer service. After this review, I was contacted and offered a refund for returning the vacuum so they can investigate the issues. The refund was issued the same day and I was provided with a prepaid return shipping label. Hopefully ECOVACS can correct the issues with the vacuum, because a good product partnered with an honorable company is something I’d be very willing to give another try with in the future. Thank you for standing behind your product even when they don’t perform as they should. That’s hard to find in a company and it’s very much appreciated. ******** We had a different Deebot vacuum for a couple years prior to purchasing this one. The other one had great suction but often got caught in curtains or on cords. After watching tons of video reviews online, we decided to upgrade to this one for the True-detect tech and for the auto-emptying, as well as the mopping function. We quickly determined the mopping function is useless. We have tried it on both LVT as well as our hardwood floors and it’s performance is very poor. The pad only light moves against the floor and doesn’t do anything to get the dirt off the floor. We quickly brushed that feature off as a loss but assumed it would at least function well for the vacuum purposes. We were wrong. As other reviews have mentioned, if you have long haired pets, the auto-empty feature doesn’t work at all. We have to empty it daily as it just leaves the hair all in the dust bin. Fine—we’ll write off that feature as well. As for the True-detect—it still gets caught in cords but does do a bit better avoiding curtains. Now, we are having countless issues with the mapping features. It’s constantly deleting the maps or not turning on for the scheduled times because it unlinks the map. Then when it does clean, it stops for random reasons and then says it’s cannot be located—returning the charge. Every morning, we wake up to find it dead in a room somewhere for no apparent reason after only cleaning for maybe 20 minutes. We’ve had this for 10 months now and are finally just sick of it.

Does Not Work with Pet Hair
UPDATE After returning the unit the company contacted me and offered to send another unit out for evaluation. They mentioned that with long pet hair the recommend scheduling cleaning of smaller areas and allowing the unit to come back to self clean with less hair. I took them up on the offer. In the interim I tried the Prosenic M7 Pro which was a huge disappointment. While using the Deebot N8 Pro+ and just scheduling cleaning of one room at a time it does a much better job of emptying the pet hair automatically. The scanning function of this vacuum is really good and much better that the Prosenic which was dismal and got stuck all the time. The mopping function of the Deebot is not good and leaves streaks so that dropped one star but otherwise I really like this product after giving it a second chance and changing the usage to align with the pet hair from a Golden Retriever. You do have to give the unit a good cleaning after every 3 uses (clean hair from rollers, blow out and clean filters as well) but very nice unit, quiet, doesn't get stuck, great mapping, great suction. If you are buying this to use with pets save your money and skip it. The self emptying stating will not pull the dog hair and debris out of the dust bin on the vacuum due to the two empty holes. When I called customer support they told me I had to empty the unit by hand after every use which defeats the purpose of buying the model with the self empty station. I was told by customer service I should see if I can return it because it would not empty the dog hair. Too bad. Other than that the unit really works great, good suction, low noise, great mapping. Only got stuck twice. Pretty disappointed as all the questions about the unit working with pet hair say it works excellent, that is wrong.

Great potential with some disappointing issues
DISCLAIMER - I had to request a replacement for this product as the first one was dead on arrival, but my overall rating is not affected by that directly. Pros - Vacuum performance. Assuming you purchase this for its intended use, keeping a CLEAN house clean and run it on a consistent schedule, it does an amazing job. If you're expecting this to clean a floor that has been neglected, you'll be disappointed on multiple levels (same for every robot vacuum). My floor consists of carpet, hardwood, tile, and linoleum and works well on them all. - Mapping. I did have to re-map due to human error as I left some objects such as boxes on the floor that made the initial map sub-par, but once the floor was clear of temporary items, it created a very accurate map can is able to get everywhere the robot can fit. - Battery life. I've seen several complaints about the smaller battery on this, but the size of the battery makes sense with the size of the dustbin. Running this every other day with pets, my dustbin is pretty full at the end of its run, so a bigger battery would be useless since the bin would be filled regardless. Cons - Auto empty station. Overall if this runs often it's not an issue, but with pets or someone with long hair, the two exit ports on the dustbin will make emptying it counter productive as the hair will try to be sucked out both holes, playing a game of tug-a-war. I've seen some people block one hole to solve this, but it hasn't been a huge issue to start altering the hardware. - Software. It's terrible and they really need to invest some time and energy into it as there's definitely going to be some people who would prefer a slightly less effective robot with better software. The app is slow (on a modern smart phone), it seems like it needs to connect to their servers to do anything as I'm usually stuck on a loading screen just to display the robot status. While the robot mapping works well, doing anything to the map makes you want to pull your hair out. I have an open layout so the mapping didn't split all the rooms, but they have room splitting so thought it wouldn't be a problem... it was. For some reason the developers thought it would be a good idea to only allow rooms to be split from OUTSIDE wall to OUTSIDE wall, because apparently homes don't have rooms with interior walls. This needs to be updated to make 1/2 the scheduling and "smart" features useful since you can't schedule a specific room if it doesn't auto-detect it or connect to an outside wall, nor can you sequence rooms, or have different settings for different rooms. - Customer support. Like a mentioned before, my rating isn't affected by getting a DOA product as that's bound to happen occasionally. I did however factor in their customer support. I sent them a ticket with my issue and a bullet point list of things I tried while troubleshooting; literally a ticket that would take 15 seconds to read. First response was them ignoring my actual issue, regurgitating the manual, and ironically a bullet list of things to try to troubleshoot... all of which were included in my original email. Took THREE attempts to get them to do something other than copy pasted responses before I just threw in the towel and asked Amazon for a replacement as clearly Ecovacs would rather you just RMA for everything instead of possibly finding an easy solution. - Updating map. While the robot WILL update the map if you had a close door or an area it couldn't previously see during it's initial run, it will not allow you to merge or even identify new rooms without starting a new map. - Lack of full dustbin sensor. I have seen so many complaints about this, I had to include it. While it's a shame this one doesn't have one, personally it's never been an issue for me. BUT since I've also seen people saying they're returning it and getting something like a Roborock (which to be clear also doesn't have this feature), I thought I'd help future people out who can search; iRobot has a patent on this feature and must be generic enough because Roomba's are the ONLY robot I've seen that has this feature. But again, if you run it on a regular basis, it shouldn't be an issue, or if it is, schedule rooms at different times. Overall I think this robot has a lot of potential and can easily compete against the more expensive competitors like the Roborocks and Roombas, but I think the software at the bare minimum really needs some time and effort invested into it as it's frustrating when you want to do any sort of customization to how the robot vacuums. Also, please train your customer support and improve that experience; I shouldn't have to send multiple emails to get past generic copy paste responses when I took the time to provide all the information up front then be forced to give up and get an entirely new replacement.

Life. Changing.
I bought this for my daughter. She said: This robot vacuum is a life-changer! I looked into iRobot and other robot vacuum cleaners a few years ago, but I was put off by the seemingly complicated, clunky, and time-consuming mapping and magnet boundaries. So, I didn’t get one. Then. But, I still hated pushing a big, clunky, noisy vacuum around. Added to that, I got pet budgies. They are fun, but, oh my gosh, their food and feathers get everywhere! By the cage, in their play area, outside their domain in the living room, kitchen, bathroom, my bed- Everywhere! To make it worse, they despise the broom. To them, brooms are evil, vile, dangerous things. They riot at the mere sight of one! After a year of working and finishing a master’s program, I was tired and weary and had let my home go. I wanted help getting back on track. So, I decided to look into robot vacuums one more time. Then, I asked for one. They’ve come so far! This little guy (Botie) is now indispensable to my housekeeping routine. Setting him up and mapping with the app was a breeze: Just set all the things that move around often (ottomans, trash cans) up off the floor for the first 3 times so he can get a better lay of the land. He empties himself (with a little help on occasion with all those feathers!) and navigates the changing landscape with ease: Ottoman in a new spot? No problem! He figures his way around it. Sock on the floor? He’ll scoot on by it. I picked this particular model because of the lower price and because it can go over .75” transitions. I have a transition that’s close to that, but Botie handles it with ease! Does he clean hardwood and carpet? You bet he does! The first night I let him sweep the bird room with some trepidation: Would the birds, all snug on their perches for the night, wake and deem Botie a fearsome monster? Not at all! They slept right through his cleaning and have every night since. He is very quiet. The only time sounds like a regular vacuum is when he empties his dustbin when he’s done cleaning. Botie does get a little hung up on some things. He gets caught on shag rugs, needs practice with area rugs to perfect his technique so they don’t slide all over, and has yet to master a cushioned mat by the sink. When he needs help, Botie nicely has the app send a message asking me for assistance. It’s adorable! To me, these quirks are small matters. I simply pick up the shag bathroom rug and cushioned mat before releasing Botie to eat all the dirt, crumbs, and feathers he wants. Thank you, Botie!

Terrible Product (Updated)
Update 2: I just cannot recommend this vacuum to anyone, as there are better options out there. My issues are twofold. Firstly, it is an absolutely terrible navigator. Our area is around 350 square feet, and on average, it takes this thing 70+ minutes to complete. It goes over the same areas many, many times for seemingly no reason. It also generally runs out of battery before it can finish this tiny space, which is unacceptable. It does recharge and resume, but that should not be necessary for such a small space. Secondly, as others have mentioned, the self emptying feature is very subpar. We have a shedding dog and use this vacuum on a daily basis. The self emptying port is extremely tiny and gets clogged the vast majority of the time, forcing us to manually empty it. This defeats the whole purpose. All in all, spend a little more and go with a different brand. Update: I was able to work with customer service, and sent the unit in for warranty repair. It appears that the below issue has been fixed for now, so I'm increasing to four stars. The Deebot worked well for a few months and now has completely started to error out. Three times it has just stood in one place with its side brushes spinning and just not moving. It becomes completely unresponsive in the app, and the only way to stop it is to manually turn it off via the red kill switch under the flap. Then, once I turn it back on, I cannot do ANYTHING with it. I try to factory reset it by holding down the manual reset button, and this does absolutely nothing. The first time this happened, the robot manually fixed itself in the middle of the night and started working again, only for the whole thing to happen again two days later. Customer service has also been terrible. They tried to tell me that it's my WiFi, which doesn't make any sense. Why can't I even reset it or do anything with the Deebot if that's the case? My wifi is and has been working perfectly fine, it's 2.4ghz capable, and the robot has been running flawlessly on the same network for months without a single problem. I regret this purchase and wish I went with a more reputable brand. I have a Roomba for upstairs and it's never been remotely this bad. Stay clear.

First unit was DOA. Replacement was A-Ok!
I posted a review of the Ecovac N8Pro+ previously and that review was based on a broken vacuum I received. After I returned the broken unit, Ecovac sent me a new one. I had this unit for about a month now and here is what I observed. This is going to be an update of that review. The N8Pro+ has been pretty impressive thus far. It's done a good job picking up dust and dirt from both carpet and hardwood flooring. Suction is strong and it will adjust automatically when it transitions between different types of flooring. The sensors on the vacuum work as advertised. They sense walls and obstacles and will display them on the app as it maps the rooms. I haven't had any issues with the vacuum crashing into baseboards or furnitures. It's been very gentle on my house. Since I don't have any pets, I can't comment on the vacuum's ability to avoid pet accidents. I can tell you the vacuum has trouble with very thick area rugs. It struggles to climb over the edge but it's no fault of the vacuum as my area rug is very thick. Another important thing to note is that the N8 has very good stamina. The battery capacity is enough to vacuum my house which is around 1600 square feet. The only time it need to return to the charger was during the initial mapping. Also, the auto dust bin emptying feature is extremely handy. It is strong enough to suck everything out of the vacuum. This makes the vacuuming process totally hands-free. The N8Pro is also pretty good at mopping. I have wood floor in the living room and tile in the kitchen. They both looked and felt clean after the mopping cycle. The N8Pro+ can sense my area rug and would avoid mopping it. It also didn't leave my floor overly wet. The amount of water used can be controlled in the app under the preferences setting. Speaking of the app, Ecovac did a pretty good job on the design and layout. It was quite intuitive and easy to use. I didn't even look at any of the instructions. After all, I'm a man.

The robot works despite the app and poor local support
The N8 Pro+ robot works well. It navigates autonomously throughout the house, has covered all areas and cleans remarkably well on both carpet and tiles. It has only become stuck once when it unexpectedly ingested a piece of rope under a bed. It's great that the robot refuses to go on carpet if it has a mop attached. The mop works though it is a little odd, in that it's hard to remove if you want to use the robot as a vacuum - unless you remove the whole water container. The auto empty bin works, but only if the robot isn't too full, otherwise 50% of dirt stays inside the robot. Increasing vacuum runs improves the situation somewhat. It seems that both sides of the bin are being equally sucked which causes a dead space in the middle. Perhaps blocking one outlet somewhat might alleviate this issue. The supplied auto empty bin was for the wrong voltage (120 V, not 240 V) and Ecovacs Australia support claims that the unit is not purchased from them (even though it was purchased by clicking on the link on their site), is not supported, does not have global warranty and does not have a universal power supply. Their only solution was to purchase another auto empty bin locally. To all appearances both units are identical. The Remote Control App is rubbish. It's unstable, the user interface is horrible, inconsistent, continually fails to connect, makes it impossible to divide rooms. It is impossible to overstate how bad the App is. You should know that unless you push the "auto" button on the robot itself, this device requires an internet connection to operate.

Mejor imposible!!

Very very impressive.
I'm upgrading from first gen Dyson 360 and even used a few of the earlier Roomba. I didn't have high expectation that the Ecovac would perform better but in almost every way it does -- with the exception of suction. The Dyson is impossible to beat still after almost 10 years. Our place is a single floor 1200 sq/ft all laminate flooring. Unlike older robo vacs I only have to move the dining chairs because of the legs. Other than that the T8 pretty much navigates and cleans the whole house properly - in about 50min which usually only use about 40% power and the clean is actually impressive. So far it hasn't gotten stuck or not able to find it's way home. I actually have the dock tucked under my office desk besides my office chair and it hasn't been a problem. So unlike my previous experiences I don't have to babysit this, I can set it to clean and actually go about my day. If I have to write some cons: - It doesn't announce that the water container is empty or near empty - The mop cloth takes a few min to properly soak up so the initial clean might not be thorough enough - The empty bin is actually small - if there's no emptying dock this would be a huge problem - The overall system is huge - comparing with my Dyson it's taking up double the size in height, depth and width. - The app needs the ability to save custom cleaning so we can quickly re-trigger those. I clean the kitchen almost every night after cooking and would be good to automate this some way.
