Buckshot & P-Money continue to remain consistent with great music with BackPack Travels.
I just received the album a few days ago from Amazon Music. I am a long time Black Moon/Buckshot fan and this album is definitely fire with Buck's flow sounding furious and intense like the old Black Moon days. P-Money's production bangs hard like some NY Boom-Bap of the 90's, 2000 hip hop production. From first listening you would of never thought he was from New Zealand. It shows and proves that Hip hop is truly universal with no sound boundaries. You won't be disappointed to add this to your collection.

Dread Solo's 'BackPack Travels' Review
Generally when someone hears the title ‘backpack rap’ it can sway in a few directions. Some view it as a title of softness while others will say it represents a sub-genre of hip-hop that is non mainstream; containing relevant content. In this case, Buckshot and P-Money’s ‘Backpack Travels’ (released 6/24) may be implying that they’re taking the listener on a 10-track journey through nothing but realness and reality.Buckshot has been throwing consistent punches in the game since he hit the scene with Black Moon in the early 90′s. After a plethora of solo projects and collaborative works, he strikes again with ‘Backpack Travels’, cooked up in entirety by New Zealand’s renowned producer P-Money. The production is one of the first heavily recognizable facets off the project. All 10 tracks have a heavily 90′s boom-bap inspired sound, specifically “Just Begun” ft. Raz Fresco and “Killuminati.” The 90′s sounding aura keeps listeners close to Buckshot’s roots, not straying too far into an experimental realm. (In which most fans are probably excited about.)‘Backpack Travels’ has guest appearances from Steele, Joey Bada$$, CJ Fly, T’Nah Apex, Raz Fresco, David Dallas, and Chelsea Reject. For a 10-track project this amount of features may seem to be overwhelming, but that assumption is far off. The chemistry Buckshot obtains with each artist throughout the album is top notch. They also do not override the project; leaving Buckshot enough leverage to lay his science on each track. Brooklyn’s up-and-coming Pro Era was all over this project and the result of them mashing with the legend himself is one for the charts. You can smell Brooklyn burning through the speakers on “Flute”, the albums first track with an official video. In terms of content, ‘Backpack Travels’ offers a pretty wide range. “Killuminati” broadly addresses the nonsense of using the illuminati conspiracy for fame and recognition (over a standout P-Money masterpiece). “Sweetest Thing” ft. T-Nah Apex touches on daily struggles, “…Dead dream, I’m livin’ the nightmare, I see heads fiend for that nice things, yeah, I’m a product of the people around me, cowboys tryna’ enforce a beautiful bounty…” with a soulfully melodic, addicting chorus. Others like “Red Alert”, “This is My World,” and “We in Here” are the more confidently boastful, friendly reminder tracks that reassure fans Buckshot still delivers in 2014.Overall, ‘Backpack Travels’ is a success and another syringe filled with raw material for all the Buckshot junkies. He really set a mature laid back tone on this project but far from lacking confidence. The album is short but packs a refreshing track list full of top notch production, cohesive delivery, surprising features, and of course dope lyricism (as usual) from Buckshot. Be sure to go grab this album now and support the real!

Buckshot and P-Money create a recognizable sound with 'BackPack Travels'
Buckshot (Kenyatta Blake), member of both Black Moon and Boot Camp Clik and co founder of Duck Down Records, has linked up with New Zealand hip hop producer P-Money (Peter Wadams) to give his unique version of backpack rap on BackPack Travels. P-Money, who is also a DJ, has sharpened his skills over the years while working with credible hip hop artists from both New Zealand and the United States. The beats he contributes to this album are quite extraordinary. He has, quite accurately, been able to capture the cool, uptempo East Coast sound characteristic of past eras with his jazzy, soulful samples, clean scratches and upright drum kicks. Emcee wise, Buckshot wastes no time giving his two cents on the rap industry and life with his usual cutting delivery. He appropriately shouts out his home sweet home Brooklyn as do a guest or two on the album. In fact, a few of the guests almost eclipse Buckshot himself in stealing the show. Their verses are cornucopias of great rhymes. In all, they are Raz Fresco, Joey Bada$$, CJ Fly of Pro Era, T'Nah Apex, Chelsea Reject, David Dallas, and Steele from Smif-N-Wessun. Buckshot's lyrical game is still relatively sharp, but he almost tries to reach too far. Some interesting parts for him are his takes on veteran emcees and the Illuminati theory. BackPack Travels is ambitious for sure, but it tries to be something fresh from the past instead of something new right now. There are definitely some nice moments on the album though, even if it seems unnaturally flashy at times.

Buckshot👍😉
