Piece of art by itself
I treasure and savor this book. It is a piece of art in its own right. And the layout allows me to mentally recall through the museum.

Disappointing…
I spent hours at the Frick Madison last weekend, and it was wonderful to see the paintings up close and well lighted. But I should have examined this book while I was there. If I had, I would not have bought it. Instead I ordered the book from Amazon when I got home. Each spread is a panoramic shot of a section of the displayed artwork in the Breuer. As a result, the paintings are small, while the walls and the floor tiles of the Breuer get as much space on each page as the art. Sometimes more. Since I could care less about the walls and flooring of an essentially ugly building, my heart sank as I turned each glossy page.Frankly I was hoping for big reproductions of each painting with a write-up by a curator. I wanted to revel in each of the paintings I had so enjoyed looking at. No doubt that would have resulted in a conventional art book, something the museum clearly wished to avoid, but I’ll admit that’s what I wanted.I wanted to see a full-page enlargement of the cheerful Hogarth portrait, the elderly Rembrandt’s glorious self-portrait, the quirky Duccio Temptation — and everything else. The sculptures, carpets, and ceramics come off better than most of the paintings. So I learned nothing from this book., although it's beautifully produced. Thank goodness I watched every episode of Cocktails with a Curator. But having all that information in book form would have been so nice.I still love the Frick, dispute my disappointment with this book.
