Draw Your Big Idea: The Ultimate Creativity Tool for Turning Thoughts Into Action and Dreams Into Reality

A valuable resource to help you think and communicate more visually -- and more effectively
While my work focuses on visual thinking and visual communication, I have always been someone who suffers from "ICD" -- or "I Can't Draw" syndrome. But this fun and visual workbook will not only teach you how to draw more effectively, but to think and to communicate more visually so that others will be able to "see" what you're saying. Filled with thought-provoking prompts and questions, it's the kind of book that you can quickly skim through cover-to-cover, but the real growth happens when you pick up a pen, pencil, or marker and think and draw along -- page-by-page -- as I did. And as you do, you will feel your drawing skills -- and your confidence to draw -- increase with every sketch. The expression "a picture is worth a thousand words" is common and true for a reason, and this valuable guide will enhance your ability to think, draw, innovate, communicate, and lead more visually -- and more effectively -- than ever before.

Get inspired!
I met Nora and Heather several years ago at a conference for graphic recorders and was WOWED by the power of their 'visual presence.' Both are extraordinarily talented women and have much to offer. I was thrilled to see that they were publishing a book and pre-ordered it immediately. When the book arrived, I couldn't wait to dive in. The book is BEAUTIFUL, well organized and will be a great tool for a variety of audiences! Grab your markers and get to work! The lay out, content and exercises support deep reflection and great insight.

OK book. Nice layout. But too simplistic.
I was expecting more of an indepth look into my goals, expectations and limitations. But this was mostly a collection of top five lists of common questions (where do you see yourself in 5 years, what is your biggest memory...) It lacked strategy and purpose. And there were only a handful of drawing excersises.I ended up giving the book to my friends teenage daughter. She loved it. So, I guess that is saying something...

If you think that you can't draw, you need this!
It's a good book for somebody who wants to start drawing but because I loved drawing I have already overcome my fear of drawing so if you think that you can't draw I recommend you this book because is full of exercises and ideas.

This book is a wonderful resource to get your creative juices flowing
This book is a wonderful resource to get your creative juices flowing! It helps walk you through planning your next steps towards accomplishing your goal. At the same time the exercises are fun and nothing like having to read on and on about someone else's approach to their big idea. I would highly recommend this book to those looking to expand their ideas and think outside the box!

Nora and Heather have broken the process down step by step - it's easy to do a bit at a time
Have seen Heather and Nora in person doing graphic recording. Often, it's hard to get to the bottom of your ideas - and the biggest challenge is to start writing! Nora and Heather have broken the process down step by step - it's easy to do a bit at a time, sketch out what you're thinking, and engage your creative side. Highly recommended!

than one page on how to draw person easily to then asking you to draw the most important ...
I thought this book was about teaching techniques on how to draw simple ideas that are recurrent in business so that you can communicate with simple iconic drawings. But this book doesn't teach at all any techniques. They go from telling you that all you need is a square, circle, triangle, line, than one page to then draw the most important events in your life! :-) that is a huge leap. So for example how do I draw the image of graduating from college or selling my first product? The book I think is great in guiding what questions to ask yourself to create a compelling story about something but really, doesn't teach at all how to do simple drawings too communicate the story. No insights on how to look at objects and quickly create a sketch. I think teaching how to draw for business communications was not the intention of the book. They in fact do all the drawing and ask you questions to fill out with words or other drawings, but no instruction on how to draw ideas. I think this book would be useful for people that know how to draw already but need help in knowing how to craft stories. They should state in the summary of the book that this is not a book that teaches how to draw for business communications, so that it doesn't misled people looking for that.

If like me, someone who would love to sketch note ...
If like me, someone who would love to sketch note my ideas but can't draw, then this is the book to buy. The book takes you through how ideas can be turned into drawings and the steps to take to learn how to do so.

Workbook
I was expecting to learn how to draw my ideas but this is more of a workbook that you fill in using drawings. There are several processes such as drawing your network of contacts and your ideal client (if you have a business) which were interesting but little guidance in how to actually draw your 'answers'.
