Was so glad that I got this book at the same time as The Betrothed! I could not wait to read how it would end! Appropriate, attention grabbing, lots of twist and turns, and beautiful romance! Definitely recommend!

Disappointed again. Predictable, lazy writing..
Similar to "The Betrothed", I had high hopes and was disappointed. If you want a fast, easy read with a predictable ending where everything conveniently works out for the main character, this is the book for you. I don't regret reading these books, but I don't see myself picking them up ever again and would definitely label them as forgettable.SPOILERS:(#1) I am so disappointed that, once again, Kiera Cass simply killed off an inconvenient character. I loved her Selection series, but was very frustrated in that series when she quickly and randomly killed off a character that was in the way of the heroes happy ending rather than finding a way for Maxon/America to overcome them. Kiera Cass pulls the same lazy writing again in The Betrayed. People are inconveniently in the way of our heroes happiness? Better just write that they happen to fall over dead. Literally. Boom. Instant happiness and all our problems are solved. It felt sloppy, rushed, and lazy, not to mention unrealistic.(#2) I was so disappointed that our main character "fell in love" really quickly yet again. I felt like it cheapened what love truly is. I wished so badly that Kiera Cass would have developed Hollis on her own, without her falling in love every 10 seconds with someone new. I absolutely HATED the ending of the first book The Betrothed with Hollis literally meeting, falling "in love", marrying, and becoming a widow in the span of 2 weeks. She basically pulls the same stunt again in The Betrayed. Once again, sloppy and unbelievable (in a bad way) writing.
