Deluxe two disc (CD + PAL/Region 0 DVD) edition includes bonus DVD. 2011 album from the Blues-infused California rockers. Fronted by Jay Buchanan, Rival Sons have been heralded as a modern day mix of the Small Faces, The Who, Led Zeppelin and The Kinks. They've already supported AC/DC and Kid Rock in the U.S. and look set to be headlining superstars before the year is out.

They're for real
Best band to come out in I'd say, the last 30 years. Vocals - Strong and wide range. Jay has a pretty unique voice that, at times has a bit of shiver to it. Guitar - Holiday, What else is there to say. He play's as though he's come out of the '70s. Fuzzy rough tones, but clean and sweet when he wants to be. Bass - Not your standard run of the mill bass playing, but complicated & intricate arrangements. Zeppelinesk like. Drums - strong sound with some good heavy thump. Not to be thought of as an after thought. Rival Sons is also such a great band live. There tight, polished and confident. With this release, the band shows there song writing ability is beyond the norm, and soars to new hights.

Best band in Decades.
Imagine the best band in the 70's that never got signed & someone went back in time & brought them back. This band is just deep. Deep in soul, deep in content, & deep in musicianship. P&T is a radio DJ's dream & every single song could be a single. Songs are diverse & puts you back in time. The title track is my favorite, but just by the narrowest margin. Classic, tight, & real.

A much needed throwback
This music will make you think it's still 1973. If you enjoy 70s Rock then this is the record for you. I've been listening to this great band since 2012 when this redux was released. Luckily it was not so pricey like I see it is now. Heard about them from Eddie Trunk on That Metal Show and man was Eddie right about them.I've since collected their other 2 albums, Head Down and Great Western Valkerie. Both of those are highly recommended as well. Seen them live recently and they were every bit as good as the bonus DVD that comes with this set.The vocals sound like a mix of so many great singers from the 70s. The guitar playing which at times represent a straight ahead Jimmy Page style mixed with a garage rock sound occasionally similar to Jack White is perfect.Solid rhythm section completes the pieces needed for the greatest young band I've heard since the White Stripes.Keep in mind, even though the guitar player sometimes sounds like Jack White, as a whole they sound just a little like the WS did. They are more like Zeppelin, Areosmith( 70s era) etc....5 Stars all the way.

Pressure and Time, 2 New Songs and a DVD
i read a review of this CD/DVD in Rhythm magazine which said, "[re: drums] Life on this road could in itself be a drum solo"; they also named this drummer one of 7 to watch for at the 2012 Download festival. after listening to that song again with that in mind, i have to agree - drums are screaming and even technically out of this world.this band has a great, BIG sound. the bass player is as amazing as the drummer and puts in a lot of surprising funk. when you also consider the hard, "dirty" guitar sound, and the gorgeous, deep-bluesy, soulful vocals from Jay Buchanan, you've got one of the best rock bands to come out in a long, long while. ps - guitar has a Lynard Synard "Free Bird"-type interlude in Company Man. great rock with unexpected beat-takes and a funky vibe.the two new songs "Company Man" and "Life on this Road" almost in themselves make it worth the puchase - the CD format has better sound quality than the mp3 versions, which also seem to have limited availability. and this is a band that will blow your mind into the raptors with a great sound system.the DVD includes footage from last year's High Voltage and other festivals, along with the production video for P&T - make it COMPLETELY worth it.*Note one of the videos was shot outdoors, with just the band and people walking by - this one i didn't understand. the band sounded pretty good considering, but the context was not a concert or production-type setting - had me going "hmmmmmm, huh, wha?". I will just "skip" that one and say the rest of the DVD overcomes that one video by a longshot.overall a 5-plus-plus. highlights are the INCREDIBLE new songs; on the DVD my favorite song of theirs, "Gypsy Heart" shown live at the High Voltage festival.

Very good in every way
I agree with other reviews there are some Led-Zeppelin-esque overtones to this album, plus hints to other 60s / early-70s rock bands. But Rival Sons do have their own unique sound, and if you like confident, thumping, foot-tapping rock led by good guitar licks and strong vocals, you should definitely give this album a listen. This, Rival Sons' debut album, has a more raw sound than their later (and perhaps more well known, as least in UK) album, "Head Down." But it's not raucous; the mellower tracks (such as Only One) in particular are very well-crafted. If you've heard, and like, anything at all by Rival Sons, it's pretty certain you'll like this album. For a while it was hard to obtain in UK, but this edition with the bonus DVD is a bargain.

Not "Retro", but "re-defined".
There are a lot of "sound like" and "reminds me of" tags around Rival Sons, and as flattering they are to the band, they're also a millstone. Instead, they take a rich mix of rock, soul, funk, folk, give it a good shake and pour it in a striped-back but heavy, rich concoction. One of thier gigs is like standing in a sonic hurricane. Classic Rock magazine really fete this band, and its not just hype. This is a great debut album that has been augmented with a couple extra tracks and DVD of live shows - well worth checking out.

Retro rocking revelation. please sir, can I have more crunchy riffs...
Please sir, can I have more crunching guitar riffs? Yes you can!!"They don't make them like they used to ..." I thought that until I came across this fantastic band. Short punchy rock tracks, channelling the old masters (Led Zep, Stones, Doors). American cultural imperialism at its finest. Good bonus DVD too. Since bought the second album, "Head Down", which doesn't disappoint. Restored my faith in modern rock after the let down of Muse's latest.

Bought this album on my sons recommendation and was not disappointed. This band have got amazing potential, they sound like a cross between Led Zeppelin, Free, The Doors and The Faces, one's to watch.
