Fake marketing
This contains only the first book with the HBO COVER. THE COVER SUCKS. The font is fine. And the boom quality is nive but it only comes with the first book NOT the first four AS THEY HAVE SAID IN THE DESCRIPTION.

An awesome read
So yeah it took me a fortnight to complete this behemoth, it's awesome but it is the characters chapters that let me down, as long as you can get over the book jumping from one character to another, you will be looking forward to book five (out now) & book six (not yet, #G.R.R.Martin not your bitch)

Book 4 Lets This Series Down Badly
I loved the Game of Thrones tv series on Sky and bought the books box set as a result. Unlike other box sets of books I have bought there was no page numbering beyond book 1 which I thought was a minor inconvenience but I could live with it.Some reviews seem to mention the number of books in this set. Just to clarify the reason there are five books in a four book set is because book 3 was divided into two parts.I was impressed with how true the tv series had stayed to the book and I throughly enjoyed re-reading the story and then carrying on with the next two books. When it came to book 4 I was bitterly disappointed. The writer seemed to lose the plot completely and veer off with a whole other bunch of characters that for the most part I couldn't have cared less about. It has put me off buying Book 5 until the price comes down significantly. The end of Book 4 contained what I can only describe as an apology from the auther for veering off at such a tangent deserting the main characters I'd faithfully followed through the previous books.I'd give the first two books five stars, the third book (in two parts) four stars and the fourth book just one star. This is what made me give the book set an overal score of three stars.

A Game of Thrones Series Opening Bookset - George RR Martin
This is an excellent series for fans of the fantasy swords and sorcery genre epic (with not too much sorcery in this case). If you enjoy Tad Williams' Shadowmarch series then you will find this of similar style, quality and depth. It is also similar in many respects to Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen series (Gardens of the Moon etc), or at least the early books of his series before he slightly lost himself and his readers in the complexities of his factions, lores and intentions. It is an interesting and compelling read that does not waver in quality throughout the series so far. The storytelling style is to cycle through the personal perspectives of chief characters in turn - indeed you sometimes find yourself being extrememly anxious to follow the development of one particular thread even while being greatly entertained in other threads. You will become involved in some of the characters' to a surprising degree - and the individual outcomes are often with unexpected twists and not at all easily predictable.I look forward to the release of future volumes of this series in paperback with great anticipation.

UP THERE WITH TOLKIEN AND FEIST!!!!
Well! Where to start? I will summarise my feelings by saying that I hadn't heard of Martin or game of Thrones until Sky brought out the fabulous series by HBO last year. Then with series 2 this year I heard about the books, as an avid Tolkien and Raymond E Feist fan, I eagerly went to Amazon to check up and ordered the box set of the first 4 books - BOY AM I GLAD I DID!!! I have been reading my eyes out for the last days since they arrived and carry these characters around in my head much as I do with PUG and ARAGORN etc etc.I am so thrilled to be getting my FIX of this beleiveable fantasy - it's an alternate reality - they really are that good! If you are thinking of buying these books, DO IT! You won't be sorry - the depth of characters thoughts and emotions is breathtaking! I can't rate these books highly enough - thank you Mr. Martin, you have ascended to demi-godhood in my world, along with Feist and Tolkien : - )

Great!
Never heard of G.Martin before, got the first game of thrones book while it was on offer and it was so good I went and bought this box set. A modern day Tolkien, Martin is brilliant and captures everything wonderfully. He provides enough detail, but unlike tolkien it isn't long winded which i found a lot more to my taste.Tried reading a chapter this morning, 4 chapters on i realised i was late for everything i had to do today. Very easy reading and rich with lore and history of the world he has created. If you haven't read anything by him, this box set is phenomenal and definitely a good start point. The box set is well finished, and the books are of good quality which is sometimes rare when you are offered so many books for such a cheap price. Each book is roughly 800 pages, I'm halfway through the second and so far, they've maintained their depth, quality and excitement.
