Excellent explanation of complex topic
The original text by Vasugupta is excellent summary on Kashmir Shaivism. Also author’s explanation makes it easy to grasp such deep topic. The only issue I saw was original text in English does not make sense and it should have been written in Devnagiri script.

Excellent book ,full of depth .
simple language, example and story which are familiar to a seeker.verse were easy to understand .one can read it in 5-6 hour maximum. If the author has also used sanskrit devnagari script along with English script and then it's meaning in english it would be a great joy to read.

Good book
I read this book as a follow-up to reading the book on Shiva Sutras by this author. Both the books are based on the philosophy of Kashmir Shaivism (that's similar to Advaita Vedanta) and were texts by Sage Vasugupta.I liked the concise commentary on the verses, the language and content is for a layman. There are some gems of wisdom that come out in the narration. In some patches though, I felt the book read like a motivational book. The references to Steve Jobs, Mandela are not entirely out of place.Overall a good book for anyone interested in something short and simple to understand some of the core Vedanta concepts.

Audit of Life
Spanda Karikas offer the way to lead one's life with peace, harmony and satisfaction by knowing, understanding and experiencing the Self within. During the course of my reading, I could experience that right from my childhood to my present-day (a journey of seven decades!) there is one element that has not changed and it is that I cannot call it "mine"! It was revealed to me that in times of crisis I had referred to that "element" and It had guided me to navigate my life with confidence without being perturbed. Earlier a person reads such gems of wisdom - more so a young person who is to face life immediately after his/her education - the better. The world will be a better living place full of harmony, peace and empathy for other fellow beings as that "element" is a common thread binding the entire humanity.

a book to read many times
One of the best spiritual books I’ve read, this is the real “Advaita” - non-dualism without clutter. I’ve highlighted many verses to go back and study.

The author has incomplete knowledge.
I appreciate the attempt made to translate the Spanakarikas but some pretty serious mistakes were made that displays the author may not be ready to take on such a task. For example, he has falsely defined the causal body as meaning the Self, or Atman. There are three bodies on the manifest side of existence, these are the gross, subtle and causal. These three bodies correspond to the three states of mind - waking, dreaming and deep sleep. The causal body is the body we experience during deep sleep. It is called the causal body because this is where the various karmas reside in seed state - for example, when you enter into deep sleep the mind is not obliterated, all your thoughts and emotions simply enter a dormant state waiting to again become manifest when you awaken. These three bodies are called sthulasharira (gross body), sukshmasharira (subtle body) and karanasharira (causal body). The Karanasharira is not the Atman. The waker, dreamer and sleeper are reflections of the Self, or Atman. There is a fourth state called 'Turiya', which is the formless silent self on the subjective side of all experience - all those other three bodies and states are on the objective side of experience. Thus, there are three bodies corresponding to the three states of mind, and there is the Fourth pure consciousness that pervades all those three states as the formless silent Self, the seer (drashta).I applaud the attempt of this author to take on such a herculean task here, but spreading incorrect concepts dilutes and distorts the true teachings.

Warning, do not be confused by the usage of the word non-being.
Warning, what the author calls non-being right from the beginning is not non-being. It has no form and yet it is only being and all forms that we perceive, including both the subject and object of dual perception, get their being/Is-ness from it. Do not be confused by the use if non-bring. Change it to formless being. Cheers.
