Buggy, unreliable and poor support
Overall, this scanner isn't great. To start, the company sent me the white and green model instead of the black as ordered. I was looking for a wireless scan to cloud (Google Drive) scanner. To start, I need to connect it via USB to my Mac, have the mac running, and the SimpleScan software running in the background. But if that worked, I could live with it. Unfortunately, I have had a series of problems getting my Google Drive Simple Scan "connector" working correctly, changing local destination folders, etc. Today, I tried to use the scanner again and it wouldn't scan. So I opened up my mac and tried to view the preferences. I was told to download an update to the software. After the update, the first page scanned okay (but never made it to any folder), but subsequent scans would not. I go to their support page on click on "Live Chat" only to get a message saying they are helping other customers and after 30 minutes, still no one is "live" chatting with me.As to the scanning, I used the scanner in the vertical position and all the scans were not straight. I am now using it in the horizontal position, but still have badly aligned scans.Overall, I am very frustrated with the product. Going forward, I will either spend the money on a Fujitsu ScanSnap, Neat, or a decent MFP.

If clouds had scanners...
This is a scanner whose philosophy is "cloud first". You can tell this from the initial setup: Which you do in your web browser. From installing the driver to scanning itself, there is no outside application that you see-- it's all done in the browser. I agree that web enabling most applications is helpful, and I am not decided yet on whether I prefer this functionality of scanning in the browser. That being said it probably really contributes to their big selling point: You can export your scans directly to a myriad of cloud services, Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, and deeper tools like invoice processing, expense reporting sites, etc. The list seems to be growing. The first experience of a product is huge for me when writing a review. All further experiences are seen through that lens of first experience. In that, my first experience was rough, but the vendor reconciled many of my issues and concerns. So from there, this is no longer my "first review," and I don't think the scanner is one that works best for my life, but it does have some differentiating factors that could make it extremely useful to some, and that is what I will focus on for my review. My personal use for a scanner is mostly to scan personal finance, contractual info, health or medicine invoices-- basically things that are the last paper standing in my life, and I want to scan & archive it on my machine and up to Carbonite. In that, I don't have a lot of need to fax, or save my things to a cloud service directly. The scanner's biggest selling point isn't what I need, so in that, the scanner isn't for me. This scanner is ripe for use with a connection directly to an iPad or Android tablet if they want to save directly to the cloud. They have a potential market there. To conclude, if you work in an office, industry or position that requires you to constantly share & collaborate with cloud storage services, this scanner & software could very well make your life a lot easier. It's not the perfect choice for me in my use case, but that doesn't mean that it couldn't be the right choice for you.

It works, but unless you really need to scan without a computer, better alternatives exist
I use a Fujitsu ScanSnap s1500 at home, and it's great. When I need copies of documents on the road, I snap pictures with my phone and, using Genius Scan, can correct any problems with skew and leave images good enough for almost any purpose. It's a rare case to want a real page scanner that weighs under a pound. But if such a device fills some need in your life, the SimpleScan should serve. It's fairly quick (10PPM), the resolution is pretty good (300dpi), and it can scan in duplex. The major weakness of this scanner is its software. We're pretty much past the point that scanner manufacturers can win our loyalty with hardware — with the exception of paper feed, which some companies do better than others, these devices are all good enough. Great software, however, can make a scanner much more useful.SimpleScan's software is interesting in some regards — a version is resident on the scanner itself, so the device can scan and upload to the cloud even if it isn't attached to a computer. Even when connected to a computer, the device relies on browser-based software, which in theory makes it easier for the company to update and add services over time. In practice, this approach means that some of the most common use cases for a desktop scanner (scan to printer, scan to e-mail) are either not available, or require many more steps to complete.

I Love It
This is a very small, very portable scanner with cloud storage. It's an intuitive and easy to use as any scanner I've come across. My only issue was you have to set up a SimpleScan account online, and everything you scan initially gets stored in your SimpleScan account. If you want your scans on your computer, you have to download them from your SimpleScan account. You can only scan a few pages at a time. For safety's sake, I only scan one at a time, just to ensure a good quality scan. That said, as long as you're careful, the scans are very crisp and clear, and you have them forever in your SimpleScan cloud. Especially for the price, I recommend this product.

Don't waste your time
Had to return since the "open box" item was broken. Would not turn on or connect to my computer!
