The book is great for learning about your own sign. If you have friends birth charts, you can also learn about them. Great book with lots of knowledge on placements HOWEVER. Find a birth chart else where. The one she provides on her website is extremely not accurate. I know that I am a libra sun, moon, and mercury IN 12TH HOUSE, According to many birth charts I’ve made for myself. Hers says it is all in 1st. Only flaw. Other than that great book I’d recommend reading it! Beginner friendly.

Loved how easy it is to read

I have studied placidus astrology off and on for over 25 years. I had of course heard of whole sign astrology, but I was surrounded by reference books and people who were experienced in, and mostly discussed placidus. That said, this book is a solid introduction to whole sign astrology. For those well-versed in both placidus and whole sign, this probably will not be satisfying. I have used the online tool with the book, and found that there is slightly more information offered with the online chart than what is in the book---not by very much---that is, it seems that the book concludes in an incomplete way. It just kind of drops off, and I think it's because she gives a lot of space to personal planets that it seems there is more to be said. Also, I attended a webinar where Chani Nicholas talked about the differences between a diurnal and nocturnal chart, and a day/night mercury. I will not get into it here because I think, if she is not currently working on it, she should write a second book expanding this first volume, and include a discussion of the diurnal/nocturnal team planets and mercury. She also talked about planets being positioned in the chart where they can't "see" each other. Fascinating, and it made sense, so I hope that she is working on a second book. Anyway, the main point of difference that I found in my chart between placidus and whole sign is that with whole sign many more aspects showed up, and one of my planets moved into the next house---I'd say that's pretty significant. I will not abandon placidus because I think both can be illuminating. Lastly, it must be very difficult to create astrology literature that is applicable to a broad swath of people, and I think that is an additional weakness here. But this is a nice introduction.

Though I've always been interested in astrology, I never really paid that much attention to the "nitty gritty" parts of it, specifically the different houses and what their purpose was. I'm a Gemini with Virgo rising -- that was about as far as I ever went.Chani's book really changed all that. She explains the "nitty gritty" in easy-to-understand language, and for the first time I found myself interested in the houses, sextiles, trines, squares, etc. and how my personal chart all comes together to make me who I am.I put my information into her website and found out, for example, that I was born during a full moon, which means I was "born to shine and connect with others" and that developing and maintaining relationships is very important -- this rang very true for me, both in my personal life and my professional life (I work in special education, where building strong relationships with the students is paramount to success). Another reviewer wrote that the website was inaccurate; all of my information jived well and made sense, so they must have fixed whatever glitch was happening last year.You *do* need to know your exact birth time for the information to be completely accurate, so you might want to have your birth records handy before you dive in. I read the book in a day and was inspired to pull up my birth chart on two more astrology sites after that. I was so pleased to be able to understand everything I was looking at (thanks to Chani's book) and learn new insights about myself (ie, why certain aspects of my life really work, and others really don't).I highly recommend this book.

I have loved astrology For as long as I can remember, however, I have a very difficult time reading a chart. If your like me and a beginner at astrology then this book will literally read your chart for you. It may take a little work but it’s totally worth it. I have read my chart and my fiancés chart and next I am starting on my two kids chart.
