Trackmania - PC

The game isn't compatible with Windows 8.1. It did not come with a CD Key so installation could not be completed. Very disappointed..it was a Christmas present for a friend that lives out of town. Since they opened it, it becomes non returnable.

Last year, my then 9-year-old son and I found a demo of this game somewhere on the internet and he was immediately hooked. We've been through Trackmania original (reviewed here), Trackmania Sunrise, Trackmania Sunrise Extreme, the amazing-but-free Trackmania Nations ESWC, and now Trackmania United.The fun never stops. In fact, that is one downside of this series of games: they're completely addicting. It's the easiest thing in the world for him to get started in the afternoon and put it a fight when it comes time for bed and he has to quit.He's a huge Lego fan and quite addicted to driving games: the Trackmania series brings the creativity of Legos together with the thrill of first-person racing simulators. The game consists of creating outrageous tracks, then saving and driving them. he enjoys making virtually-undrivable tracks, and seeing how poorly his old dad does while trying to complete them.He also enjoys making stop-motion animation, to the game's cinematic replay editing capabilities appeal as well. There is a huge subculture of trackmania video creators out there: next time you're on YouTube, search for Trackmania and see how creative these folks get.The only things I could imagine to improve the experience of the TM series would be collision detection and a damage model. As it is, cars drive right through each other as though the others weren't there, which is, of course, completely unrealistic, but probably adds considerably to the game's blazing performance.UPDATE: The Power of TrackmaniaSeven years later, and that Lego-and-car-addicted 9-year-old is now a 17-year-old gamer and emerging game developer. His love for customizing and tweaking tracks in the Trackmania series led to customizing the skins and sound files of other games, which led to his diving into the code of Garry's Mod, one of the most amazingly creative online gamer communities in existence. Game companies have been calling. That is the power of Trackmania.

My grandson (eight) saw an advertisement for TrackMania on TV and said: "Gramma that's what I want for Christmas!" So Gramma complied and hit the ole computer screen, looked up Trackmania, found it, ordered it, received it very quickly. My son and Grandson have spent the entire morning TOGETHER designing, building, racing and having a BALL.Son tells me this new CD may just have been the best Christmas present received. I made my Main System into a Multi-Boot Desktop Computer. Windows 7 (64-Bit) (I will ~NOT~ use Windows 8!), Hackintosh using Mavericks, and....after buying this game and after MUCH research found it won't run on Windows 7!! I Almost installed Windows 8 just to try it....but it's too bland and ugly..so...I didn't. However, I have plenty of Hard Drive space, and created a Windows XP Partition (32/64-Bit doesn't matter) for only this game (With the help of "Easy BCD"). The game plays Great with my nVIDIA GeForce GTX 780! I also have TrackMania Sunrise installed. If you have these games...about 15GB is about all you need to play with XP 32-bit or 64-bit. Yep, it's sweet to still play these Classics. I hope the developers will FINALLY release a patch that's not protected with that StarForce [Edited by Poster] Protection. Then it'll be Windows 7 compatible. Note: I'm a very advanced user...and I'm going to recommend if you DO install Windows XP, use a different drive and disconnect the Windows 7 Drive from your computer before installing XP. Why? To avoid damage to the Windows 7 boot Loader. It's much nicer to use "Easy BCD" to add XP to your Boot Loader.TrackMania ROCKS! Great games, guys...now...make them available for GOG (Great Old Games)...and....I'll buy again!

I found the free online version called Trackmania Nations a couple years ago. This was several years after the original Trackmania and Trackmania Sunrise were released. I quickly upgraded to Trackmania United and it's absolutely a blast. I started playing a year and a half ago and I'm nearly 50. I met a guy from Germany on one of the online servers who was 73 years old. I consider myself to be universally pretty good at most racing games right out of the box. Well, this man beat me mercilessly for months. He was quite good and he showed quite a lot of teenagers the back of his car as he pulled away too.Now for what really is the best feature of the game is the Media Tracker editor within the track building editor. It truly is a stroke of genius. No other game that I know of has the ability to literally create nearly any animation video. There's the standard race replay videos complete with multiple camera locations or moving cameras as well. That's pretty cool, but the real accomplishment of the track editing are videos with story lines complete with titles and credits with all manner of visual effects. I remember seeing a video created with the editor that was a science fiction story where spaceships came out of the sky to take over earth a la "War of the Worlds." There wasn't so much as a single piece of race track or car anywhere in that video. It was amazing. Nearly infinite are the possibilities.Now I have decided to start from the beginning and purchase the original game and the sunrise game so I can get the full experience of the Trackmania phenomenon.
