Hardcover PLUS audiobook
This book essential for anyone in the healthcare field and/or public health, social Justice, healing justice, environmental impact, political policy. One year left of my master in Chinese Medicine and Western Medical Health Sciences and I will never be the same after this book.I struggle to read so I got both audiobook and hardcover and it has helped me digest all the information and actually get through it…it really important to read it all the way through because it will be difficult to place certain chapters within context without reading others.First past, need a highlighter.Second past, start a book club.Third past, take notes.Fourth past, for those whose hearts are open, apply it to yourself and community.

THIS BOOK IS A HEALTHCARE WARCRY
I've had this book for a little over a year and I haven't made it through the first 3 chapters yet because it is COMPELLING on levels that make me stop and do deep dives into the historical and scientific context it provides surround social issues. It is medical anthropology at its finest. It is a call to action and a well-rounded ode to the cultures that crafted the foundations of western medicine that often are erased or overlooked. It definitely is written for a practitioner or aspiring practitioner because the concepts can be complex at times but WOW WOW WOW...it's a love letter to the culture, to the contributions of forgotten civilizations, to the empowerment of everyone who calls themselves a healer providing both case study and forensic explanation of the problem and a presentation of solutions both ancient and modern. WHAT A GEM THIS BOOK IS AND I AM GOING TO SAVOR EVERY PAGE

Can't put it down
This book is hard to put down. As I’m reading it, I’m thinking of a litany of friends and family that I want to share it with. Not the scientific medical tome that I was expecting. On the contrary, it is a compelling, well annotated narrative that explores and reveals the interconnectedness of our current political, social and environmental impact on our health and wellbeing – a whole systems look at the root cause of our broken society. “So: salmon are to rivers as hearts are to blood vessels. They both function as nutrient pumps in systems of circulation….The metaphor helps us to show that inflammation is systemic and that the systems are linked…The inflammation in your arteries and the inflammation of the planet are linked, and casual connections are becoming increasingly clear…”

Book
An odd book that’s hard to read. Solid subject matter though.

Profound and essential
This brilliant book comes from 2 fierce, moral leaders in the struggle to humanize our medical illness, wealth based, system. Their hugely original metaphor - Inflamed - captures the physiological and political nexus of the barbarity we refer to as a "health care system" and is another nail in the ultimate coffin or what we are forced to endure based on the profit driven architecture of medical care in America. This book takes the literature in the field to a new level of relevance and power that must be understood as the battle for universal single payer healthcare is waged to bring about the social transformation essential to our democracy and the well being of all who reside in the US! Get it and read it!!

Learning how currents systems built on the back of BIPOC contribute to inflammation in our bodies.
This book helped help my own mental health. It was my therapy when I couldn’t afford my own therapy. I was a frontline mental health worker when Corona first hit Jackson heights /Elmhurst New York. Suffering from vicarious trauma I sought my own therapy but due to high deductible could not afford at the time. This book was my therapy. Thank you Dr. Rupa Marya and Raj Patel! Your book was like a wise grandmother comforting me, telling me a story, lessons and guidance. Much appreciated 🙏🏽❤️. Buy this book!

We Are All Connected.
This book is an urgent read. This book thoughtfully encapsulates thousands of years of health and wellness wisdom passed on by native elders and through these modern made and highly trained doctors. Who could be a better source? Our collective well being urgently needs us all to join in the unlearning of our capitalistic and racist habits and proactively heal yourself and the Earthly beings around you. Is there a better time than now?

This is the best book I have found in a long time!!! It's filled with truth, history and the body.
This is a book for all people to read, about how trauma and historical trauma add inflammation to the body.As a BIPOC who is chronically ill, it has been especially enlightening. I am at the end and have read every word, taken notes. The authors know what they are talking about. The notes at the end really help, too.

Ingenious connection!!
Connecting our health and bodies, individual and collective, to the structures of injustice opened up a whole new perspective for me. I learning a lot more about anatomy and physical health than I had understood, and seeing how each aspect connects the structural injustice of our political, social and economic systems was truly ingenious.

Profound and significant
This book should be widely read and will appeal to anyone interested in unlearning the colonised mindset, especially concerning approaches to medicine. I’m no scientist, so I struggled in part, but the sections that are clear to a layperson like me are magnificent. Highly recommended

We messed up the planet
A very provocative study of how capitalism and colonialism (and racism) has damaged the world. The metaphor of inflammation may be a stretch too far, but as a retired physician I thought id quite interesting.
