Dead on Aririval
I should have known better. Murphy was at work. It was just over a year after I received my Edirol UM-3ex that I finally had the time to take it out of its packaging and try it out. It didn't work. No signs of life at all. I tried it with four different computers, four different drivers, four different operating systems and got no response at all. The warranty is 3 mo/ 1 year. I'll have to see if I bought it on a credit card with extended protection. The moral to the story is do every thing you can to try out a piece of gear right after you receive it, even if you don't have time to really get into it. This model is discontinued now. It's getting harder and harder to find a good mid-level midi interface. The 1-in-1-out midi interfaces are a dime a dozen, and the high end jobs are also available. Its in this multiple-in&out/under$100 level that the products are hard to find. It's a shame this one didn't work.

No Windows 10 Support
I purchased one of these a number of years ago, and was happy with it. My only gripe was the form factor: Having ports on both the front and back side of the device leaves a mess of chords. The problem is that in order for the UM3EX to work correctly, it needs Roland's driver. The last driver update was for WIndows 8, and there is no support for Windows 10 planned.

so much for so little.
As is the case with many Edirol products, this little device gives you quite a bit for your dollar. It functions simply and flawlessly as a 3x3 midi interface, and you can daisy-chain up to 3 devices for 9x9 midi ports. My only real complaint is with the midi-thru functionality. There are no dedicated midi thru ports; instead, edirol has provided switches which, when enabled, echo the input ports at the output ports. This would be great, except, when you have the thru switch enabled, the device doesn't capture midi from the input port (at least not with my software). snaaaaaarfoh well, at this price, just buy a couple. You won't regret it.~Maitland

Great Little Interface
This is the little midi interface that could! I only have a qualm with the plastic packaging, it's like almost all small electronics right now, you can't get into it without a machete.....The Edirol, when connected to my G5 running Leopard, was plug and play. Absolutely NO problems. It's small and works like a dream! If you're looking for a compact, low price USB/Midi interface, this is the one for you!!!

No Windows 10 drivers
No Windows 10 drivers. I feel ripped off. Never buying Roland products again. Zero stars.

Good Things Come in Small Packages
As one building a music production studio around Propellerhead's Reason 3.0 having a MIDI to USB interface is a must. Added to that, putting together that studio on the cheap, that interface needs to have a wallet friendly price. The EDIROL UM-3ex does just that. Having 3 MIDI in's and out's and being able to daisy-chain upto three units fro a total of 9 MIDI in's and outs the UM-3ex makes for a great unit for both beginners, with just a keyboard like myself, and advance users expanding their number of MIDI devices to include a drum machine and a MIDI control surface for gaining more tactile control of today's music production apps. The unit itself is small thus making it easily portable for those on the go which will be nice when I add a laptop. Also the drivers are easy to install thus no screaming and fussing here. The only minus though is that seting the address switches might get a little cryptic for first time users. However that's for when daisy-chaining multiple devices. By the time that happens users will be well familiar with the ins and outs of MIDI and this product. Overall if one is looking for a good MIDI to USB interface that will give alot of bang for the buck. The REDIROL UM-3ex is hard to pass up.

Good timing, in my opinion
I just wanted to come on here and mention, this product seems to have quite low timing jitter. I'm developing a midi sequencer (and care a lot about timing, unlike a few other sequencers) and I approve this product!
