Great Nora Roberts
I always enjoy Nora Roberts' work but this one was outstanding. The history woven into the modern plot was exceptional. The plot twists and turns were wonderful.

A DANGEROUS CAT & MOUSE GAME
As I entered the world of writer/house-sitter Lila Emerson, I felt as though I were there, seeing the world through her eyes. She shares her surroundings through great visual descriptions, and her inner thoughts accompany us on our tour. And she literally views the world around her through binoculars, by gazing at the windows in neighboring apartment buildings. Her latest "job" is in a luxury apartment in New York, and just as I was getting cozy with Lila and her world as shown to the reader, she witnessed a murder in a very frightening way.Drawn into the intrigue, after talking to the police, she accidentally meets Ashton Archer, an artist, and the brother of one of the victims. He is gorgeous, of course, and the chemistry between the two is immediate. Luckily, they are connected to some of the same people, so she isn't nervous about getting to know him better. His wealth and resources help move them along toward their goals. The Collector is a page-turning suspense story that leads the characters through the twisted world of a very dangerous group of people, and as we try to anticipate what will happen next, we are surprised again and again. Ash and Lila meet with people who help them discover who is behind the killings, and they already have met the hired assassin on a few occasions. At the heart of it all is a fabulous art find that is driving the criminals to take everything to the highest level. Who will win in this dangerous escapade, and what must Ash and Lila do to end the game? A somewhat predictable, yet enticing read. 4.0 stars.

Pure Nora Roberts
I couldn't put The Collector down and almost cried when my battery died and had to recharge. The characters were extraordinary. The cat and dog stole every scene they were in respectively. Lila is such a strong heroine! She rules! Lol, it's 2 something AM and I can't recall the hero's name! Forthright, dependable and romantic, with a take charge attitude and a family centered heart. Julie and Luke deserve their own book. I want to see Spence apologise to Lila! Forgive me, I'm rambling. Good night! Oh, read this book!!!!

The Collector
Exciting, awesome, wonderful and amazing! I love a strong woman and a man that can deal with it in understanding ways. The chance meeting, the chemistry between them and how each deals with it was the basis of the whole book. Put together in a way that only Nora Roberts could have imagined. I’m sure that everyone who reads this will enjoy it as much as I did. Happy Adventures!

Should have been better
I like Nora Roberts’ books. I am a fan. The woman is prolific - in many languages. It would be impossible to pick just one favorite; I’d need a list of at least ten. That being said…If you are planning to write another book about a murder witness – it can even be said it was a mob-like murder – then you need to exceed what you have written before. One can’t read this book without the mind blinking back to The Witness. The Collector does not have the depth of character development or plot development readers found in The Witness. And Nora Roberts undoubtedly knew there would be comparisons, but it’s not a comparison I’m making.First, I was pleased I didn’t run into those Nora Roberts’ phrases that seem to carry forward from book to book. That was nice.Second, the love-making paragraphs were almost non-existent when compared to other works. I’m okay with this. Do something different for a change. Why not?And okay, one true comparison to The Witness: I’m not even annoyed that there is also an artist in The Collector who paints whimsical beings – I just don’t buy that the artist is a macho, take charge guy. However, …The characters were not as well developed; I found them to be flat, one-dimensional. And our heroine and her friend seemed to be so chatty it became annoying – like watching a bad movie where you are thinking the scene could have been edited out. The chatty conversation didn’t add to either the characters or the story. The relationships didn’t really develop, either. Sure, the best friend (Julie) could have been doing quite a bit of relationship development when she and her ex-husband (Luke) were not front and center to the story. But we really do not see the relationship between Lila (our heroine) and Ashton (the whimsical artist) develop. Their passion and love grew from almost nothing. People thrown together in intense situations can form quick bonds, but not to the extent they decide to marry. The police investigators were so mild they were almost comatose.I don’t mind knowing the assassin will free herself from her captors at the end to give our heroine one more try; how many times do we see the bad, monstrous guy die and yet we know he isn’t? We know he will jump up from the grave, the bathtub the bushes. But make it work my sticking around. The Collector doesn’t. It’s almost anti-climatic. No big finish. No satisfying finish.I know there will be readers who disagree with me on every point, but after waiting for months for this book to come out, I’m disappointed in the result. My overall opinion is: if you are a fan and have to read this, by all means read it. But have one of your favorites handy to satisfy your mind when you have finished. The Collector will definitely not make my list of all time best Nora Roberts’ books.

Loved the suspense.
The suspense in this story is great. Lila is such a strong character and Ash wants to take over all the time, because he is used to doing that, but he lets Lila be herself. Lila witnesses a double murder. The brother of one of the victims, Ash, wants answers and Lila can answer some of his questions, but it only raises more questions. Lila is someone who is always thinking of others. She can talk to someone for five minutes and get their life story. She feels bad for Ash and wants to comfort him. The more time they spend together, the more Ash knows that Lila is the one. He is an artist and wants to paint her. He sees her in a different way. As they face an assassin, Ash becomes more protective, and Lila isn't used to anyone caring for her that much. If they live through this, Ash is going to have Lila forever. Will she finally admit that she loves him, and will she let him love her?

This book is so atypical Nora Roberts or even the usual contemporary romance... I don't know how to describe this but you get a sense of poetic flow throughout this book. The conversations, the response to situations are so honest and normal - there aren't any situations where you feel how can you be so dumb and instead so much more more logical ! The romance is just right! The mystery perfect. Just loved it.
