MASH The Complete TV Series + Movie-DVD

Good value, good video quality, but bad case quality
This is a good value for the complete series of M*A*S*H plus the original movie.Video and audio quality are good, but they could be slightly better. Why? Because these discs do not appear to be authentic 20th Century Fox discs. Using VSO Inspector (a disc analyzer app), there are a few clues as to whether or not a disc is an authentic one made by a big-name studio like Fox, Disney, Warner, etc, or if they are cheap copies made elsewhere (often China). Authentic discs are almost always dual-layer, only have 1 region code, usually list a publisher (Fox, Disney, etc), and usually don't list an application (such as Nero or another burning app). These M*A*S*H discs don't meet most of those criteria for authenticity: they are single-layer, have region codes 1-8, no publisher, and no application. The big issue here is the single-layer aspect. Dual-layer allows for twice the storage capacity, so the files can be made twice as big (half the compression). This can often make a noticeable difference in video quality, but in the case of these M*A*S*H discs, I actually didn't notice much issue with video quality (thankfully).I also own season 7 of M*A*S*H on DVD. I bought it from a reputable local store, and I am almost sure they are authentic Fox discs: they are dual-layer, have region code 1, list Fox as the publisher, and list no application. I did a direct comparison of a few episodes from these authentic discs vs the likely non-authentic discs from this complete series being reviewed here. Thankfully the difference in audio and video quality is negligible. For audio, I didn't notice any difference on my high-quality surround-sound system. For video, I played both sources side-by-side on a large screen and went frame-by-frame in a few spots. When pixel-peeping paused frames this way, I found that the authentic discs had slightly better detail and slightly fewer compression artifacts than these discs being reviewed here, but the difference was very minor. When actually playing the video, I couldn't see any difference, and I'm the kind of person who typically notices these things. So, not authentic, but this doesn't seem to affect it much, at least for the few episodes I checked in season 7. The fact that they don't appear to be authentic is probably why they are quite a bit cheaper than most other sources of the complete series. The reason I took 1 star off this review is that the DVD cases aren't very good. The inner parts of the cases that hold the discs tend to fall apart after a few uses. The outer parts of the cases are decent quality though.

Really Terrible Case
The show was good, but the case for this DVD set is really terrible. Disks are staked on top of each other in the case, meaning you have to dig through as much as 5 disks to get to the one you want. On top of that, it's really stiff, so you feel like you are going to break the disk with each item you pull. It looks good, but it's not a case that was really designed to be used.

Goofy Packaging....
FIRST: I think what's been said, has been said; BUT..... This arrived in the dopiest packaging I've ever seen. (Thankfully, removal of each season - 3 disks - works better than one at a time.)ANYWAY............Fortunately, I had received 2 "Walking Dead" seasons (5 disks per) with broken cases - disks intact. Not worth re-ordering replacements, I ordered the following:From: MegaDisc Store / Goodwoodeshop - 14mm New Standard Size 6-IN-1 DVD CASE 6 HOLDERS Black 20 Pcs per Pack. Great Product. They have become a blessing to replace the dopey case holding ALL 34 DVD's for all 11 TV seasons of M*A*S*H*. (It now all fits nicely in 6 cases, that are extremely hard to damage DVD's and easy to remove and replace disks. Printed off new labels form the case "slieves" too.)NOW: About this collection: It was, and is, to date one of the top 5 TV series of all time. IMHO.The first few DVD seasons are a bit grainy, but still good viewing, and my favourite series. The "Feature Film" is the 1970 original movie with Donald Sutherland, Elliot Gould, etc. This DVD movie I got was indeed the original movie because: some later editions and the 1973 re-issue - didn't have the sometimes gritty stuff that wouldn't be eligible at all (such as racial and sexual innuendos).ENJOY !

Get it while you can. Hard to find in stores
Grew up to MASH playing on my dads tiny black and white tv.It is a fond memory and I have always liked MASH.Its one of the harder to find movies in the stores. Either they have sold out quickly or not sure when they will get them in. Always to seem they are not in stock in my area.Best to buy the complete series instead of each season when have the chance. Been looking for while. Had 4 of 11 seasons. This one comes in a plastic dvd case.Only thing that I would change is the arrangement of the discs. You have one season stack one and another making it hard to pull the next season out or risk scratching. you have to remove each disc in order to get to the next disc in the season. However since it has so many discs to one season and its all in one case then it is what it is.Other than that my wife, son and I regularly watch it after dinner. It came two days after placing the order. Two days before the projected delivery date.Got to enjoy it sooner.

Many discs have errors !!!
As a big fan of this show I must say I am very disappointed, several discs have errors. Some episodes skip terribly, some episodes won't play at all, a complete collection is useless if it's not complete, as in all episodes intact and playable, this set would be great if it could be trusted, but I knew when I saw more than one review regarding the episodes skipping or not playing I shouldn't have bought it. This also isn't the first time I've bought dvd collections on Amazon that had issues with disc errors and or not playing.
