Screw the rivet! Work smarter, not harder.
I read all the negative comments about the replacement of this plastic part. The rivet replacement was often the source of foul language because of the installation. Compressing that chunk of metal often required removal of the operator to find a hard surface. I used a Chicago screw, often used in leather applications such as saddles or belts or rifle slings. I used a small grinder to grind the bottom of the rivet off and remove it. The replacement was 30 seconds after letting the operator arm cool. No removal of the arm to take it in to hammer the rivet flat and reinstallation. Small screwdriver was all it took and it was quick and easy. Well worth getting a $10 assortment of these handy screws.

Great purchase
Bought five of these for my five windows where the shoes have been broken. Took about 15 minute each, but saved at least $800 by doing it myself. Works great

You better have tools and skills if you're going to try this yourself!
The product does what it is supposed to. It fits the window, opens/closes the window, and attaches to the operator arm where it should, BUT, you have to be able to smash or carefully split the rivet just right or you'll end up ruining it. We painstakingly removed all of our arms, took them to a workbench, clamped them down, and used a chisel and hammer to carefully smash and split open the rivet enough to hold it in place. A hammer or vice alone isn't enough pressure to mushroom the rivet adequately. You'll need muscle, skill, tools and LOTS of patience to tackle this one alone. In the end, they work great, but don't be fooled into thinking it's an easy, level 1 DIY project.

Accurate Description, delivered on time.
Great solution. As described: no Instructions in package. Online (@ Amazon) instructions could be a little better. Anderson recommends removing wood trim to remove operator. Removing the trim and operator was much easier than removing the rivet. I should have done this first.I was able to cut top of rivet with a multi-tool. but this is a waste of time, due to shape of rivet. Next I removed underside. But to peen the rivet, you really need to support operator arm and have rivet backed by an "anvil" or other very hard work surface. Hammering near the glass, metal trim and so on will not end well. End result passed spousal inspection. Like most first time projects, you learn by some combination of reading and doing.

It works but install is not easy
Very disappointed when the previous shoe broke. Only 17 more windows they can break on. There are YouTube videos out there on how to replace. Grinding the old rivet off was slow. Dremel tool took 5 minutes. Taking the arm assembly off was tough: 30 plus years of paint on the trim. The guy who recommended Chicago rivets in lieu of the one in this kit is spot on. Wish he told us what size.
