Not just for Marketers.
As a developer I was unsure of the value I would gain from this book. Before reading this book I was familiar with the features of Sitecore that centered around custom development, but was missing general knowledge about what a client might see in Sitecore or what the experience a marketing user might see when entering Sitecore. The author does a great job of laying out use cases and examples which readers can relate to regardless of their technical or Sitecore experience. After finishing the book I feel much better acquainted with Sitecore features I would not generally touch at my job. There are some parts of the book which I could directly relate to and will definitely use day to day. The author's view on dealing with security works for both developers and technical user. The last chapter on Governance is a subject development teams can put to use when starting or completing a new Sitecore project. In general, all of the marketing tools can be customized. A client may ask for them to be customized or they could be leveraged for a custom project. In all I found that the book had interesting and colorful examples which will provide value for a large range of technical levels and experience.

A must read for beginners and a sharpening tool for professionals!
The book is primarily aimed at content editors and marketers; however, even as a Sitecore Technology MVP I found it to be a very valuable read. The book was written in an easy to read language and provided a very thorough overview of Sitecore starting with its history and ending with the latest advancements, like the Federated Experience Manager (FXM). As someone who has been working in Sitecore for years on daily basis, I was already familiar with all of the topics covered in the book, however, I found myself taking pictures of pages and tips, as I read through it. The book provided great insight into the world of Sitecore and brought the moving pieces together. The biggest value that I got out of the book, as a Sitecore teach lead, was from the simple and logical explanations of marketing approaches to using Sitecore. This helped me understand the business side better, which will defenitely translate into better architectural decisions I make in the future projects.I would say this is a must read for everyone who is starting to learn Sitecore, and good skill sharpening tool for professionals!

Hands on Guide to Sitecore 8
Having worked as a Business Analyst with Sitecore for several years, I found this book an invaluable asset. I was able to learn new information as well as fine tune my existing knowledge of Sitecore. I especially enjoyed the Managing Content and Experience Personalization sections, as this will help me as I train clients on how to use Sitecore. I also found the Tips and Strategy Bits provided helpful, real world examples. I found the layout of the book, screen shots and flows very easy to read.I would recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about Sitecore 8 and its capabilities.

Good but Already a Bit Dated
Very good coverage of the basics of Sitecore. But note that if you're learning the current Sitecore version, 8.2, there are some changes in the sitecore as well as the launchcore sample site version that happened after the book was printed. So the instructions can be confusing. But this book was copyrighted in 2015 so that's to be expected in January 2017.

Amazing, Helpful book that even Non-technical readers can understand
Phil Wicklund does an amazing job of iterating Sitecore 8 and its capabilities. As someone who is not super technical I was still able to follow along. The pictures and images that Phil provides provides an excellent base to help readers understand the concepts and strategies he outlines. Along with each component he iterates he gives real life examples that brings the explanations, images and concepts all togather. It is a great book for ANYONE who works with, sells, uses, develops anything with Sitecore 8. I would highly recommend this book.

if you are just looking for an overview of Sitecore this is a great read!
This a guide only. Not much depth into anything technical. Written for the marketing department to realize the capabilities and possible uses. Configuration in the title is misleading as it does not cover actual Sitecore configurations but is referring to possible analytic configurations. However, if you are just looking for an overview of Sitecore this is a great read!

Like a badly written manual
Like reading a badly written manual. No real walkthroughs, step by step instructions or example configs. I learned nothing. You are still on your own in Sitecores less than perfect GUI. Sitecore is still a pain to configure and you have to pay for courses to actually get the chance to learn something.
