A book to break the recipe book mould
Jamie Oliver should be stuck all over with praise stickers for his achievements in the advancement of the average British cook's repertoire. I am a Home Economist in my 50's, in my twenties I nearly wept with frustration when trying to teach at a large comprehensive school & instil good cooking & eating habits in future generations, an uphill struggle as witnessed by Jamie's programmes of the same. This book is easily an inspiring & different approach to cooking for anyone from teens to OAP's, it would be super to use when teaching cookery in a school. Beautifully photographed & laid out with step by step pictures, but importantly a recipe book which will be used. It is inspiring & makes you want to get into the kitchen & throw a delicious meal for family or friends together, as there are so many tempting recipes to choose from, there is something for everyone, it really is packed with ideas & menus. Even an old hand like me has been ooh-ing & aah-ing & drooling over the recipes.Jamie, you deserve a medal for all that you have done for food & cooking in the UK & beyond. Well done, this is a marvellous book. It is an entirely new type of format & approach for a recipe book, it makes such sense to approach cooking a meal from this angle. Every menu has the method for cooking each of the courses intertwined, so you prep a part of one dish move on to another course then back again, in the end the whole meal is cooked & ready on time. This skill of timing & planning to have a meal ready is lacking from many people's cooking abilities, this book will therefore be such a help to very many aspiring cooks or even people returning home from work tired yet wanting to eat well.Edited on 12/10/10 to add: having now viewed the first 2 programmes in Jamie's series which complement the book, I strongly feel this is ground breaking stuff. How Jamie comes up with so many refreshing new ideas, I do not know. His programmes are inspiring & just what the nation needs to get on with cooking great food which tastes fab, is good for you & gets the family back sharing their days chat over & super meal. This is a young man with a real talent.Katy Thompson - Home Economist & Aga Cookery Demonstrator

I Love This Book :))
I love this recipe book! The layout is great, beautiful photos and the recipes easy and quick to follow once you get into the swing of things. I love this style of cooking. I have absolutely no imagination when it comes to throwing meals together. I find using this book makes it so much fun cooking because I know that at that in a short time I will have great tasting food on the table and plenty compliments from my Hubby. There is only the two of us in the house and I found that we were throwing a lot of food away. Planned meals stop the waste and therefor save on our grocery bills. They are easy to adapt for two people. As my husband does not eat veges I only cook for me. Intitially it cost a bit to get all the ingredients, but we did this gradually as we needed them. Really had to shop around though as some supermarkets do not stock some of the ingrediants, like fresh nutmeg for instance. Now we always have great tasting food on the table and to take to work for lunches. It's amazing what a few extra ingredients do to a dish :))I read the introduction and the beginnign of the book first to understand how things work. Went to the trouble of re-arranging the kitchen and buying a few bits of kit and a food processor to make my life easier. It is also worth building up the ingredients and not "making do", becasue the meals are so tasty and different. Best money I have spent in a long time.

Jamie's 30 minute meals
I bought JAMIE'S 30 MINUTE MEALS thinking: it obviously doesn't take Jamie Olivier 10 mins to find the bloody potato peeler and then another 45 mins to actually peel the buggers. But if he can get a 3-course meal on the table in half an hour, perhaps I can get something - anything - on the table in that time. It's a good book. I haven't managed to cook anything edible, but there are some lovely photos of Jamie :)More seriously, some great recipes including tomato soup and chicken pie as well as banoffee pie and some excellent ideas for all sorts of salads. However, some of the recipes have many ingredients and are more complicated than I had hoped as a wife and as a mum of three young children hoping to feed them all quickly but healthily. On the whole I think I prefer "Cook with Jamie", but that said, I have a whole list of recipes I want to make from "Jamie's 30 minute meals" that I haven't yet tried out.

Innovative format
I buy a lot of cook books. Some I put on the shelf never to be used. Others are well thumbed and many recipes are tried. This one has been used several times already with very successful results. The format is so unusual - the main, the sides and the dessert (or a drink) all on one double page spread, with an easy to follow list of ingredients and "plan of action" to get the whole lot on the table within 30 minutes. The recipes are easy enough to follow if you just want to cook one part rather than the whole meal too. There is a good range of recipes with quite a lot of pasta and salad, some very tasty ideas. So far I have tried the chicken pie, the Jools pasta, the mushroom risotto, the veggie curry all of which were fantastic.Lastly, there has been quite a lot of press about this book and how people can't cook the meals within the 30 minutes. My 11 year old managed to cook one of the meals in 40 minutes, so if adults can't do it in 30, perhaps it is their inability to get a move on that is the problem, not the concept or the recipes?Well done Jamie - with this book even the most hopeless cook should be able to cook a real meal in the time it takes for a take-away to arrive!

Purchased used
Despite purchasing a used book, this came in “like new” shape. Well worth it and great recipes.

Affare
Libro pieno di spunti interessanti per menu convenzionali e meno. In puro Oliver style.
