Hubitat-controlled Hot Water Heater
Using this to control my hot water heater via Hubitat (I need to turn off the hot water heater during peak energy rates to save money). So far it's working great. FYI, for Hubitat, you'll need the custom "Aeotec Heavy Duty Smart Switch" device driver found in the Hubitat Package Manager. My only complaint is the odd knockout holes where the wires enter the device, they're not standard holes and therefore you can't use regular clamps to secure the wires (you have to use the included rubber plugs). Not a big deal, but I'd rather use standard clamps to secure the wires.

Easy installation, easy operation
Update: switched from wink to SmartThings and this still works like a charm!I purchased this to be used with my hot water tank so that I could be able to remotely turn it on and off. Installation was straight forward and connecting it with my Wink hub was also fairly easy.Since installing this device I no longer have to manually turn my water tank on and off and have set up a "robot" to have the heater come on a schedule, this has resulted in significant energy savings for me.

Works without neutral when used with 240V
I wanted a smart switch to use with my dumb window air conditioner which has a 240V NEMA 6-15 plug. Because this was going to be used indoors, weather proofing or range was not important, but the size was and this was the smallest 240V ZWave switch I could find. The problem with NEMA 6-15 is that it is a 3 wire system with a ground and 2 hot wires and no neutral. Unfortunately this switch claims that it will not work without neutral. I dug a bit into their wiring diagrams and realized that most of them didn’t have neutral connected either. You do need to connect L1 and L2 though. If you are using 120V (or on 240V in the EU), then you need to connect the live to L1 and the neutral to L2. This means not only is neutral not required, but connecting both L1 and L2 is required even if you have only one live.I bought a 240V extension cord on Amazon, cut it into half and wired the L1, L2 and ground (and no neutral) through this switch. There’s a button on the switch which toggles the switch on and off. You need to press and hold the button to put the switch into pairing mode (the manual incorrectly says to press the button which will just toggle the switch on/off). It paired with my Aeotec dongle on the first attempt. The connection has been solid without any issues and the switch works perfectly without overheating. It is a bit loud when it goes on or off though. Finally you need to go to the control panel of your ZWave system and enable power, current and voltage reporting. They are disabled by default.
