The Hat

I love Jan Brett, and this book is an adorable companion to the Mitten. Lovely pictures for children and I like the slightly preposterous story lines involving animals. I also enjoy how the pictures have other little pictures around the border, it is also so detailed and thought out. Unlike most kid's books that are garishly revolting and look like they were illustrated in a matter of minutes by a subhumanoid robot with no sense of aesthetics and beauty.

We bought this as a birthday gift for our daughter who is a big fan of hedgehogs. Very nice artwork and cute story. Our daughter enjoyed this book.

Just purchased additional board books, to give as gifts to new babies. The Mitten, The Hat, The Gingerbread Baby, Noah's Ark, and several others. Pleased with the board books for little ones, all nicely illustrated with cute stories.

Please note that this review is for the board book. I think the board book is shorter than other editions, and the editing makes the story read just a bit jumpy. There's also an emphatically worded value statement at the end "Animals should never, ever wear clothes" that I find frankly a little weird.

This book is excellent for kids of all ages. I am a Speech Language Pathologist and Jan Brett's illustrations in her books provide so many opportunities to work on children's language skills. The illustrations in the headings and sidebars of each page of this book give you clues as to what is going to happen next and what is happening behind the scenes.

After Jan Brett's 'The Mitten' became such a fav. with my two grandsons, we had to move on to 'The Hat.' A great story, funny, charming, with the usually-wonderful illustrations Brett is known for. This is another 'keeper' book, which in my family will be passed on to younger children, when the older ones are too old for it. (Which might be never; we all love kids' books in this family.)

I read this to my son when he was little, and I now give it as gifts to other children. The story and illustrations are beautiful! I also recommend the other books by Jan Brett. Great coffee table books!

This was a gift. She seemed to enjoy it. After all, what 2 year old would rather have a book than a toy for her birthday.
