HDMI to HDMI+VGA+SPDIF Digital Optical Audio Decoder Extractor Splitter Analog 5.1CH+RCA Multi-Channel Audio Decoder Support Dolby Digital AC-3, DTS, LPCM

I bought one of these so I could use a set of powered analog speakers with my HDMI devices. When I hooked everything up, the signal noise was terrible. The audio sounded garbled. I tried different source devices and all different cables, as well as different speaker hookups including headphones. It was definitely the device.I figured there was a chance it was just one dud, so I bought a replacement. Nope! Had the same exact problem with the second model.The only reason this gets 2 stars instead of 1 is that, of all the HDMI de-embedders I tried, this is the only one that seemed to emulate the EDID setting correctly. You could set it to 5.1 and my computer detected a 5.1-capable sink, regardless of what was actually plugged into the HDMI out. You could turn your TV off and still get the audio signal. The other units I tried passed the EDID through, regardless of the switch setting. So it's really too bad the signal was so bad when the mechanism would have worked for me!

Bought this about 2-3 weeks ago. It worked great until about 2 days ago it shut itself off and wouldn’t turn back on again. I unplugged it and plugged it back in, nothing. The little red light would just flash quickly on and then off again, wouldn’t stay on.

This product has a short in the circuitry and it makes a popping sound when the volume is at a minimal and it does it consistently throughout watching a movie I do not recommend it

Warning, this DOES NOT support DTS decoding. If you pass a signal that contains DTS audio will you will get no sound from the analog outputs.

Why would anyone use this? I thought maybe I had a bad one but looking at other reviews I am not the only one. I’d rather watch a movie on mute with captions than to suffer through the horrible audio quality of this device... Scheduled for return, thanks for wasting my time. DO NOT BUY!
