Lions Aren't Scared of Shots: A Story for Children about Visiting the Doctor

My 4-year-old daughter loves this book. The first time we read it was the night before she had a checkup that included a couple of shots. She was still nervous and cried when the nurse gave her the shots, but she sat still as I encouraged her to be brave like Molly (the girl in the story). After the visit, my daughter wanted to read the book over and over. So even though she cried, the book helped her work through her fear of needle pokes. She talks about Molly whenever she has a doctor's visit.

Read it to my 2 year old the night before a shot. He roared at the Dr!

Well, to be honest, this book could definitely have been written better. I truly don't think it can relax the fears of going to the doctor....My 4 year old hated the book! I would definitely return it if I could.

It was a good book for my pre-schooler to read with me. She is still scared of shots, but she can talk about it a little more easily after reading this book.

Simple explanations for a doctor visit and reason or childhood shots.Best book for 5-7 year olds, great graphics,and parent advice in back of book very helpful.

Lions Aren't Scared of Shots is a picture book designed to help children understand that doctor visits don't have to be painful. My 10 year old loved the book and read it in 20 minutes. There are two sections. One is a beautifully illustrated story about visiting the doctor. The book was written by Howard Bennett, M.D., a pediatrician, and illustrated by M.S. Weber.The second section was written by Jane Annunziata, Psy.D. for parents. She writes about child anxiety and child coping during doctors visits. It is filled with common sense methods of dealing with bringing a child to the doctor.This book is great reading for children who have anxiety over doctor visits. I highly recommend it for parents with young children.
