Purchased this to replace an old self-closing mechanism in which the spring had broken. The installation was very easy and would have been doable without removing anything. Unfortunately, I had to remove the door and railing in order to remove the old self-closing mechanism. The closing motion is also much quieter than the old one. We have another door in the same room for which I will likely buy another set of these so we have the same ones on both doors. I like the thought that if I ever have spring failures in the future that I should be able to replace them without disassembling the existing hardware.

Why didn't someone think of these sooner? Instructions were a little confusing, but once you figure it out very straightforward and an easy DIY. They work great. I have 3 large sliding barn doors in the basement, and grand kids would slam them open and shut, and now no more, they work like a dream, just like soft close drawers, they catch, and then slowly closes shut. The only down side is they take some nudging to start to open, and on the non large handle side, you will want to have some type of finger slide and, I got some that you just screw in without having to chisel out a groove,

This is a pretty good product. It works as advertised, and is pretty compact and discreet. The stainless steel parts are not visible when installed, so no need to worry about that. The mostly metal housing is one of the reasons I went with these instead of other plastic alternatives. Installation is not hard, but the included instructions are indeed lacking. The video in the product listing pictures was helpful in figuring out the installation.My home made barn door will not slam anymore, which is great when you have kids (or friends kids) that can't/won't control themselves. The stoppers that come with barn door kits only do so much in my experience.My only complaints is that when the door is fully closed or fully open, it takes quite a bit of force to get it clear of the soft close mechanism. It's ok for now, but I think young kids might have a hard time with it. I tried adjusting the "speed" setting using the screw on the bottom, but it didn't seem to make any difference in any way.Also the mechanisms are about 13" wide, as the seller indicated in one of the answered questions. However this doesn't take into account the metal brackets that you use to attach them to the rail. These stick out past the soft-close mechanism, and extend the width by about 3/8 of an inch. Hopefully this isn't a big deal for your installation, but it could make a difference. In my case, it forced me to move one stopper just past the point it would normally sit, so the door never touches the stopper anymore. It's not off by that much, but it could be depending on your installation. Just something to keep in mind.

This Device does exactly what it’s advertised to do, slow close, or open, at the end of travel, a sliding barn door. And, the internal spring mechanism that pulls the door to the desired closed or fully open position, keeps it in place. I suppose this makes it difficult to pull the door open from closed or vice versa, and there is a ‘cocking’ action that keeps the mechanism ready to receive the door for either slow close or stay open actions.Now I can ‘throw’ the door either to close or open, the mechanism receives the door, and finishes the job without a bang or bounce open! Perfect.My only desire is that the attachment pieces, particularly those that show, were more finished in appearance. However, I believe the price is right for what you get and will do just fine. Oh, BTW, very easy to install. Takes 10 minutes tops.

Needed something to hold my barn doors in place. This item was perfect. Very happy with this purchase.

I bought a barn door and I did not like how I have to babysit it when opening and closing to prevent it from slamming. I searched for soft close and there it was. I read reviews and decided to go with these. I happy about the purchase and it was easy to install. Out the box, the tension is good for my needs and no more babysitting the barn door when opening and closing. I've opened and closed the barn door numerous times and no failure yet. So far so good. The value is great too, if mine breaks i will buy another. Thanks

I like the construction of this that includes metal sleeve that encompasses the whole piece and a bolt that goes through the whole unit to attach to the bracket. The other plastic kits out there that only attach by one screw hole and seem flimsy. With the sturdier construction I am confident in running this kit without a stopper, which gives everything a cleaner look.However the brackets that screw into the door are way too big. Even though the measurements are provided, the vast majority of doors are not 1.7 inches thick. I ended up cutting them and hitting the raw ends with some sharpie. Thankfully it's a pretty soft metal and easy to cut through.

Bought two sets of these for some very heavy barn doors in a vacation rental property. They were easy to install and very inconspicuous. Over two years later they are still working great. Very impressed.

I finally installed these on my barn door. They are absolutely fabulous. The install is simple and the adjustments work great. My door now just slowly buts up to the frame as not to harm it. Highly recommended!

The media could not be loaded. Super happy.Firstly, the Black version is almost definitely not stainless steel, but you probably already knew that.Install was quite easy.. The fact that you can locate the door blocks pretty much anywhere gives you so many possibilities to locate the soft close actuators in the more limited spaces between the bottle holding up the rail.As others have mentioned, probably the sole issue with the device is that the door blocks are so deep they extend past the 35mm depth of my door.I don't think it's noticeable enough that I'm worried enough to cut them down though.The finished look is super clean.There is some resistance to re-arm the actuator when pulling from fully open or fully closed, but only a small child would have any great difficulty opening the door.
