100 Bullets Vol. 1: First Shot, Last Call

No question...the series is a must for anyone who enjoys an excellent plot and detailed, serious illustrations. Volume 1 is intriguing and sets a foundation for things to come (and oh what delightful things do come!) This series sneeaks up on you, as it initially feels like taking what you think is a shortcut, a road you've never taken before, just to avoid the traffic. Volume 1 is when you first turn on the road...things look familiar to you and you think have an idea where the road is going, as you see your destination on the horizon. Then you realize (by the end of Volume 1) that this road starts to lead you away from familiar territory...and suddenly you are in dangerous, alien territory. There is no exit in sight, the cell phone don't work, and you can't turn back. Nothing to do but enjoy the ride! Best series I have read in a long time. Volume 1 is the start of the ultimate mindjob. If you liked the intricacies of novels like Sleeper or DMZ, you are off to a great start on a fantastic series with Volume 1.

Great premise for a series--a stranger shows up and presents a gun and 100 untraceable bullets to a person with a grudge. It's a license to kill, and the fun is in watching how the recipients handle their gift. Reminds me of the old 1950s TV show "The Millionaire" in which the mysterious Mr. Anthony gave out $1 million checks to average Joes. The artwork in FIRST SHOT, LAST CALL puts you right there--you can feel the grime of the barrio, smell the smoke and stale beer at the bar. I felt that the first story (Dizzy) was better than the second (Lee), but they both had the requisite grit and nasty to be quality noir. I'll be picking up other books in the series.

This was one of the best concepts for a story I had heard and I was very curious to see how they were gonna go about that. I enjoyed the stories within the story and so far they've been pretty good. I like the art work and the way the language is and having to sound out the words to understand sometimes when their talking which I enjoy. Think if and as this continues it can get great or get played out if they play it safe so again can't wait to see what happens.

Not a bad read. Suspenseful and a nice plot premise. I didn't feel like this quite met my very high expectations in terms of story line and art.

A while back (16 years ago in '99), I bought issue #1 (now worth quite a pretty penny) on a whim, for the cover price. I loved the story so much, but for some unknown reason, I never bought another. Now they're all worth that pretty penny, so the graphic novel volumes was my best option to read the full series and I'm well underway! Agent Graves is a mysterious character I can't wait to find out more about! I've read and reread this volume 3x since buying it, so to pick up names, small details, anything that may come into play later down the line. Was good enough that I've already ordered volume 2, read it twice, and am definitely going to read the remaining 11 volumes (because as I said, the comics are just too pricey now. D@mned hindsight is always 20/20, I suppose!). A MUST READ! Azzarello's writing and Risso's art are a beautiful combo!

Nicole’s husband here…I first read this volume of 100 Bullets when if was fresh off the presses, and I’m glad to be able to read it again! Azzarello created a world of mystery and intrigue that only gets better as the volumes go forward. As someone who used to own a comic book store, I highly recommend!

Strong story that was well crafted. It drew me in and kept me reading. The art was interesting, particularly the artist's use of negative images. The story needed some more exposition, but I guess that is what a serial comic is for. I will be reading the next ones.

WOW. What can I say about this book? It's GREAT. The cover is great, and was probably the reason I decided to pick it up. I'm glad I did, because it's a fantastic story that had me hooked from the first page. The art inside isn't as impressive as the cover art, but it's still quite good, and not so cluttered that you can't understand what's happening in a panel, which is great because like I said, the story is the star of the show. I would liken this to something else, but I don't think I've encountered anything similar. Basically, if you enjoy street justice, moral dilemmas, conspiracies, and the main subject of a storyline NOT always winning, then this is definitely the book for you.

I’ve read this graphic novel 4 times, but never bored of it. The writer & artist took us to another level of storytelling with realism & beautiful colouring. Good I can read on Kindle too👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Great read

This is the first time I've actually purchased a graphic novel/comic book since I was very young and having finished it I'm really starting to wonder what I've been missing all these years. The storytelling here is excellent; each episode entails a self contained story, within which, each protagonist is presented with the opportunity to 'set things right', but at a potentially devastating moral cost. Overarching these individual vignettes, and perhaps linking them together, is a murky back story which, within the first few episodes, hints at dark, brooding and very intriguing possibilities. It's really left me wanting to read more, so I'm off to buy the next instalment!!

C'est une série sur la vengeance. De petites histoires s'enchaînent sur des personnages des bas-fonds qui ont un jour l'occasion de se venger par l'intermédiaire d'un personnage aussi énigmatique que renseigné qui leur offre la possibilité (à chacun !) de disposer d'un pistolet et de 100 balles intraçables. Ben et bien ça ne prend pas : les personnages acceptent l'air de rien de prendre ce matos de mort et les explications de cet inconnu pour argent comptant, on ne comprend pas où veut en venir l'énigmatique personnage central, ni comment il peut être aussi bien renseigné. Les scenarii de ces histoires sont tirés par les cheveux et ne servent qu'à décrire le monde des bas-fonds et du vice et encore, assez mal. De plus les dessins ne sont pas d'une grande qualité, ni d'une grande précision, ce qui fait douter, une fois de plus, que la nouvelle garde des dessinateurs Comics soit en mesure de rivaliser avec ses aînés. Je passe sur le coût élevé de chaque tome et sur le fait que la série semble ne jamais en finir. Bref, c'est raté. Une série comme Sin City fait 100 fois mieux graphiquement, scénaristiquement et psychologiquement.

Had several short novels within it. Some were better than others. An interesting concept, but didn't leave me gripped to the edge of my seat having to read it all before getting on with things. I always think a sign of a good book is one you can't put down. So, from me, just okay. Nice graphics though.
