My 8 YO boy loves to play on the beach. Really good!

I'm no detectorist but this seems to work okay. My kid found a few things.

Fairly light and short. Maybe slightly too heavy for my 5 year old to use for a long time without getting tired. No volume control but you could easily tape the speaker to mute it, and it was just the right volume for outdoor use. The fins on there dont really make it easier to hold and are just cosmetic. Im definitely glad it takes AA batteries instead of a 9 volt. The different faces are definitely a big hit. In terms of its metal detecting ability, I think it works fine for a kid. Ive never used a metal detector before and I could tell right away you can get a few false alarms, but I presume thats typical and we had to teach your kid what to expect. Was able to find small coins and objects we had scattered around the yard. Will need to try it at the beach next. Overall not a bad buy.

I got this detector for my 4 year old so we could detect at her playground. It is fun and she likes it. I like that you can descriminate three tiers of items. I typically start her off knotching out iron and foil leaving the happy face icon only (coins and above). It easily finds coins at a few inches. The coil is small so no need to go too crazy pinpointing. Working with daddy we uncovered over a dollar in 30mins. I would recommend using a cheap pinpointer so kids can feel involved in the recovery. Maybe assisting with a Garrett just for speed's sake. This is a good way to get kids interested in your metal detecting hobby.

Bought as a gift, have not heard back yet as to it's performance.
