This is NOT a copycat. This is the real deal, and it's a high quality killing machine.
Okay, some of you may be familiar with the older Rat Zapper Ultra back when it was made by AgriZap. That one was fantastic and did its job very well. At some point, they sold out to Victor Pest company, and the new unit (it's currently silver in color) is absolute garbage. I've been searching for a proper replacement, and this is it!The Raticator is every bit as good as the older Rat Zapper Ultra. I have caught dozens of rats of various sizes, and there has never been even a single instance where the trap was triggered but the rat got away. It has a 100% kill rate so far.Be very careful when you go through the reviews for this product - a lot of people don't seem to understand the difference between not placing/baiting it properly which means rodents never go into it, versus how well the trap works *once* a rodent goes into it. The former is the fault of the owner, not the trap. If you're using this for rats, they are very clever, and you have to outsmart them. This trap is the real thing. It works extremely well, and is well worth the money.

Quit wasting time with traps and buckets of water
Buy this trap if you are serious about wanting to win the war! We live in the Oregon high desert and recently built a house on untouched 20 acres. I wasn't mad when the pack rats ate through my duct work during construction. I am an avid gardener (both flowers and vegetables). After pack rats mowed over my dahlias, garlic, and onions (then didn't even eat them, just left a pile of the greens for me to find as evidence), I finally got angry. This. Was. War.Other methods we tried: Snap traps (rat size and mouse size), buckets of water with the "plank" where they drown (this kills mice but the pack rats are big enough to eat the PB and survive). Nothing worked as well as this! My neighbor mentioned he had a "ratinator" which I'm assuming was this product. I am so impressed with it that I bought 2! Spendy, I know...but it's almost nightly that I get two kills, one per trap.I fill my Raticator with 2-3 pieces of dog food. I've lost count but each day I catch either a mouse or a pack rat. It's super easy to empty, I just tip the thing over into a plastic bag. Sometimes the little critter is singed to the bottom but other than that, it's very easy to clean. It flashes with a red light when there's a kill, so I don't have to check it. It couldn't be any simpler, cleaner or MORE EFFECTIVE! Quit wasting your time, peanut butter, and patience. Invest and start winning.

This has pluses and minuses vs the competition trap that opens and snaps closed
This electrocution trap has its pluses and minuses vs the other manufacturers' versions. It will kill rats but you'll have to work very hard and smart to get them into the trap because rats are smart and cautious by nature. I would say the pluses for this brand is that it's attractive, the translucent case lets some light in, and the photocell detection system seems to work well.Major minuses vs other brands are that it's not remotely waterproof (there's an unprotected switch and battery door on top, it has exposed wiring inside that raccoons have reached in (trying to get the bait) and torn out (I soldered it back), and worst, it needs to be cleaned frequently but you can't open it up to do that. You're supposed to let it soak in a pan of water (yuck) and then try to reach back way inside with a bottle brush and scrub. The company used to sell a waterproofing cover but you can make do with a large freezer bag - just so you have the top completely covered. If a little water gets inside on the bottom plates (as has happened with mine) the trap will fire and not work until it dries out - not a big deal.As for catching rats, that's hard. I would recommend leaving the trap out baited with pet kibble, bird seed, corn, peanut butter or whatever WITHOUT arming it for at least a week. Let the rats stink it up with rat smell and get used to thinking it's a free meal. THEN start arming it. Like any other method of rat control it's VERY IMPORTANT to remove all other easy sources of food first. Good luck!

Excellent results far exceeding expectations
I have used this zapper for several months to address a severe chipmunk problem and it has work super. It's humanely eliminated close to 100 chipmunks and we are still using the original batteries. It's killed some mice and moles as well. Although its not used for squirrels, they do go inside it from time to time to get the sunflower seed I use as bait. It shocks them but does not kill them (exception of 1 squirrel). They flee and know enough not to try it again. I purchased a second unit to keep inside the house in the basement just in case a mouse should find itself inside. Overall, this unit has completely exceeded my expectations.

Waste of My Money
This trap never killed anything. The light would go on at times but never anything inside and often the bait was gone. I changed batteries twice to see if that was the problem. Nothing worked. I have tried several of these electronic rat traps over the years. Many years ago the old rat zapper worked really well. I have not found anything that works since then..including the new rat zappers. Not sure what the problem is????
