A.M. LeonardClassic Soil Knife & Leather Sheath Combo – Hori Hori w/ 6-Inch Stainless Steel Blade

After 40+ years of gardening and shop work (I know a good tool when I work with it) this is the best gardening tool ever! It is very strong and I doubt I could ever bend it. It came sharp enough for me, will easily cut through small roots and slip into almost any soil. I use it for weeding, cultivating, planting bulbs in turf grass, planting small plants (for larger plants I use a wider trowel or small shovel), smoothing the soil (use the side of the whole knife), cutting through turf that is invading the irrigation system, all sorts of things. I like the sharp point, it makes it easier push into the soil (unlike forked knives I have used). The orange handle makes it easy to find when you lay it down. The stainless steel makes it essentially rust-free. I like tools and gadgets and have bought and tried many sorts of soil knives, trowels, weeders, and other things through the years and this is the best by far. After watching me use it for many tasks, other gardeners in my community gardening asked where to buy it.I wish I could get a nylon sheath. The leather is sturdy and nice looking, but leather holds water. While it will not hurt the stainless knife I still would prefer a nylon sheath that would not retain moisture. I treated the leather with conditioner before use.

I go metal detecting at every opportunity and a good digging tool is very important. I've been using the A.M. Leonard Soil Knife for 3 months and have dug and cut thousands of holes and plugs with it. It looks the same today as it did when I first opened the package. It hasn't rusted at all. The serrated edge is in perfect shape. This is after having been used in all kinds of ground conditions including, dry, wet, rocky, sandy, clay, bark, etc... It is rated as able to withstand up to 300 lbs. of prying pressure. I have to say I've applied at least 300 lbs. more that a few times. It isn't going to break. And it cuts plugs so cleanly that when I stand up after putting the plug back in place, I can't see where I cut the plug. The sheath that comes with it is real leather, not some fake material. I love the belt clip on the sheath, it keeps it solid on my belt, but is easy to remove before I get in my car. I guess I could go on and on and on..... But I won't bore you any longer. JUST BUY IT!! YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!Just one more important comment.... THE SHIPPING WAS SUPER FAST!

I took a master gardening class that required me to volunteer at my local botanic gardens. The gardener who supervised me gave me one of these in appreciation for my help. I LOVE this tool. Without a doubt, this is the most valuable gardening tool I have. It is VERY sharp--take care not to cut yourself. It easily cuts small branches and roots (up to 3/4 inches in diameter), and planting bulbs is a breeze with its sharp tip and depth indicator. It is VERY durable and has outlasted my hand shovels, etc.

I've had this tool a couple years now and I love it!! I use it way more than I thought I would cuz it is so useful in so many more ways than I had originally bought it for. It's still in great shape and so is the leather holster that came with it. A must have for every gardener!!

I did not buy this for myself, I bought it as a gift for my brother. I got one as a gift a few years ago, and I love it! I knew someone else who had one and was impressed by what they did with it, so it went on my "want" list. It goes everywhere in the garden with me, because it is a "do it all" tool. It can cut rope, saw small branches or tough weeds, hack weeds like a machete, dig, divide perennials, and it even has markings for measuring so you can plant bulbs at the proper depth. Plus, it seems unbreakable. I would highly recommend this tool to any gardener who doesn't already have one!

This is a versatile tool for weeding - I can weed out deep rooted weeds and not disturb my plants. I also like that it has a side that is measured, this makes it good for planting. Little expensive, but I think it will last a long time. I like the sheath and the orange color - I won't be losing it or leaving it in the garden. Overall a good, well thought out garden tool.

I love this knife. I used it for the first time today. It fit well in my hand and the color will make it easy to locate should I leave it in a flower bed. I used it to dig out the grass plugs that had grown into one of my flower beds. In addition I used it to cut some small tree roots without a problem. Also very pleased with the leather sheath. Don't know why I waited so long to purchase this item.

I’m an average sized man (have medium everything) and yet my hand is way to big for this tool, and practically runs off the end. The result is its awkward, but worse it’s very hard to get leverage when digging. Too bad, tool seems very sturdy and useful otherwise.
