The Little Tone Monster.
This combo came well packed by both Amazon and Kustom. The Defender V15's construction is stout and sturdy, and it's lightweight enough to easily carry around. A highlight of the V15 is the Celestion G10N-40 speaker. It's an incredible 10in. speaker with deep lows, sweet mids and clear, smooth highs. The beauty of the amp is its simplicity. With the Bass Response and Tone controls along with your guitar's volume one can achieve many tones at different volumes. Once the speaker broke-in I determined the stock Chinese tubes were sufficient. One needs not change them; however, on a quest for more, I installed a matched pair of high-rated Tung-Sol EL84s and a Tung-Sol 12AX7 and voila! The sound became much more articulate & dynamic. Sweet! The benefit of the high-rated output tubes is less break-up or overdrive which gives the amp a bit more clean headroom. I also tried a JJ 5751 in the pre-amp and the sound became much smoother with a touch of resonance, which is great for blues and jazz. About the 4 Watt feature: it's loud and is not really intended for a bedroom setting. What it does, and does well, is it gets dirty pretty darn fast, but with the Bass Response turned to American and the Tone control turned all the way to the right I can get a decent low volume clean tone from it. I love the Little Tone Monster.

I have two other excellent amps that are much larger (and heavier)
I got this for my pedal steel guitar which needs a lot of headroom. I have two other excellent amps that are much larger (and heavier). I wanted a small lightweight tube amp to take to band practice. This totally fits the bill and though I thought about getting the next model up, I decided that weight was the chief concern and didn't. This amp does overdrive when I crank up the volume (ie. it could use more headroom). That is not a great plus for steel guitarists, but I don't mind and I think a lap steel would be a perfect pairing. I can't recommend it for regular guitars because I don't play one, but I imagine it would do well.

Great little thing
I own this amp for about three years now. If you're looking for something to play with your band and also at home (it's loud even in the 4W setting) - this is it. Perfect for recording as well, since you can break up very soon and very smoothly. Very good at picking dynamics. You can switch from 4W to 15W in order to choose between a more overdriven sound or more headroom. I replaced the stock tubes (Shuguang chinese) with a Sovtek 5751 GE and two Mullard's EL84 and now this thing sounds AWESOME. The speaker is very good as well (Celestion - G10N-40). No complaints about it. I wish it had a little bit more low, but that's physics, not the speaker or the amp.Very straightforward little beast. It blends very well with Gibson (humbucker) and Fender (single) guitars; and it can handle pedals very well. It's my first tube amp and I'll never sell it. Best price ever, even for a south american guy like me.
