The Oregon Bigfoot Highway by Joe Beelart and Cliff Olson
The Oregon Bigfoot Highway.Review by: Jane Schad, Myrtle Creek, OregonThe Oregon Bigfoot Highway is an informative, entertaining book engaging the reader at every turn. This book is for all who wish to experience Oregon's grandeur whether a Bigfoot enthusiast, skeptic, like myself, or the casual/virtual tourist.Covering an area of Oregon’s National Scenic Byway No. 5 from Estacada to Detroit in the wilderness of the northern Oregon Cascades. The episodes are split into 6 areas each prefaced with vivid descriptions, historical information, GPS coordinates, and traveler alerts, warnings and advice. The Oregon Bigfoot Highway is a compilation of over 100 years of Bigfoot encounters and physical evidence thoroughly researched and evaluated for authenticity. The author explains the analytical and evaluation process to assure the reader the stories and evidence are not fabricated. The reader is to draw their own conclusions. In a conversational tone, Joe takes the reader on a series of grand adventures with him and his fellow explorers. Throughout the exploits, the reader is made to feel they are along on each adventure taking in vistas, points of interest, seeing, hearing and feeling what they are whether it be awe, surprise, elation, anxiety, fear, or apprehension. There are episodes of humor, intended or not, where I would grin, giggle and, at times, outright laugh. Jake-the-Recluse made me grin, the great bobcat/cougar scat debate made me giggle, and The Mother of all Turds episode made me laugh. A surprising find was the Green Cathedral, where I whispered "don't tell anyone.” Appropriate USFS personnel were told about the Green Cathedral, one of a very few sites where GPS information is not disclosed. Return communication from USFS indicated the site was prehistoric and possibly 10,000 years old. There are many other escapades eliciting a response from me, albeit in my mind, shouting "be careful, watch out” or pointing and commenting “there!”. Cougar episodes, climbing over unstable ground, descriptions of footprints, where the ice age and its aftermath created the landscape naming a few.In my estimation, the mark of a truly good book worthy of many readings. Also, an added bonus with this book is combining the GPS coordinates with Google Earth to really “see” the forest. Finally, I highly recommend The Oregon Bigfoot Highway to all that wish to experience the majesty and mysteries found in the northern Oregon wilderness.

I'm most of the way thru this wonderful book, and I will be sad when it ends.
I truly will be sad to come to the end of this wonderful book - I'm about 3/4 of the way through now. All of the stories, happenings, and findings are so interesting and engrossing, even when they're sometimes not even related to Bigfoot. I've never been to Oregon, but I've seen many, many photos of that beautiful state from a few photographers that I follow, one in particular who shoots a lot of the wild areas that so resonate with me. I had previously thought that that would likely be prime Bigfoot country, and this book certainly does confirm that for me. I love the writing and all of the stories - this has been a wonderful present to myself.

Hit the Highway
Have not completed the book, however, I like the book so far and the job Beelart does It is site specific, The Oregon Bigfoot Highway. Very well done and a casual, informing read. Recommend this book to any believer or non-believer of Sasquatch. NIce reference for the area covered by the documentation. Go for it!

Take a lovely adventurous drive, and/or campout... even if the weather is bad!
Granted I approached this reading with a modicum of personal bias. Due to my friendship with it’s authors, and by being mentioned in the book. I have received no compensation for this review (nor the countless hours I’ve listened to my friend’s ministrations over its publication.) Regardless, I have read a couple dozen books on this phenomena, and can rate it without compromising my integrity, one of the best. Not scientifically dry; nor filled with wild speculation and folksy colloquialisms. I warn you now, it’s hard to take a break from… you won’t need a bookmark. In the style of the other best reads on the subject, Joe and Cliff lay the factual reporting of their years of investigation before you. So you can catch-up on, and decide for yourself what has been going on in the arboreal wilderness behind your back. While keeping personal encounters to a minimum Joe and Cliff ran down hundreds of leads from mostly unwilling witnesses who were reluctant or frightened to formally report their experiences in public. Culling out only the best for this book of never before published testimonies. While a must for the ever growing Bigfoot tracking community. Everyone will get the thrill of adventure by reading along with these guys pursuit of their passion. The authors took great care in providing more a travelogue of this scenic two hour drive than a story of malicious marauding monsters. Never the less, the revelations within… might affect your sleep. There is an accompanying web site to further sate the cat endangering curious among you, now under construction. Until that reaches maturity you can read Joe’s pre-natal notes that helped inspire this book in his “not quite ready for prime time” Field Journal at http://bfjournal.tripod.com. Thank you Mr. Beelart and Mr. Olson for a great value in entertainment and information.

I loved it!
Not sure how I ran across this book but I have always had a fascination about Bigfoot since I was a kid. I have never read any books on Bigfoot but this one intrigued me enough to buy it and I am glad I did.I absolutely loved this book and the way it was written. Very factual, some humour laced in, and lots of location data if you were adventurist enough to go look for yourself!

The Forest People of NW USA
Very detailed book about a 70 mile stretch of remote, scenic forest road in NW Oregon. Verifiable tracks back to 1911, sightings starting in 1924. Suitable for long day trips from Portland, Oregon, or for camping. Lots on "Our Barefoot Friends." Many maps. Includes GPS coordinates for use with Google Earth. This book bought for use by two English PhD doing social research on the phenomena.
