The Time Machine, The Invisible Man, The War of the Worlds: Introduction by Margaret Drabble (Everyman's Library Classics Series)

Three classic scientific novels by Herbert George Wells will expand your imagination and keep you reading!
In the beginning of the twentieth century began the great disillusionment. So begins "The War of the Worlds.' In this great science fiction dystopia the prolific H.G. Wells (1866-1945) shows us the Martians attacking earth. This apocalyptic vision was made famous to the general public in Orson Wells infamous 1938 broadcast of the novel on his Mercury Theatre on the Air produced for CBS radio. HG and Orson were not related. Orson Wells moved the story from England to New Jersey. Giant mechanical monsters attack and destroy earth as related by a terrified eyewitness. The Invisible Man (made famous in a movie with Claude Raines portraying the Invisible Man) a mad scientist discovers how to become invisible as he murders his way across the English countryside. The Time Machine (another Wells movie starring Rod Taylor) a scientist travels to the distant future. There he meets the lovely Weena . A weird and short novella which is fascinating to read. H.G. Wells is well served in this excellent Everyman Edition! I recommend it highly to anyone interested in good science fiction well told by a master of the genre.

Exactly as advertised and beautifully bound.
Fantastic collection of three classic, pioneering Sci-fi novellas. Hardcover has an old-fashioned, simple design that I personally love. Also comes with a sewn-in book marker. Also cool to note: Wells predicted the laser in "War of the Worlds" nearly 45 years before even the first master, and 63 years before the first actual laser.

Beautiful volume, amazing novellas!
Not being a huge science fiction fan, I bought this volume hoping to enjoy the stories here. I was not disappointment! H.G. Wells wrote with confidence, imagination and depth, which surprised me I guess. The high literary tone of the prose makes for an amazing yet accessible read and the stories themselves are much more allegorical and profound than I had anticipated. Wells makes comments on humanity and society that cause the reader to think about the implications of his messages. "War of the Worlds", for example, is much more than Aliens vs. Mankind. Highly recommended!

Looks Homemade
Was pretty disappointed when I received my copy but I guess I get what I pay for. The cover is nice but the inside looks like they printed the pages straight from a computer and then sloppily bound them. The pages are all crooked, there are no page numbers, table of contents, or divisions between the three books. You’re better off buying the books individually

Stood the test of time
I have been reading many classic science fiction novels lately and unfortunately most have been disappointing due to their dated social ideas. This was less of an issue here and when they did come up, although it was jarring, it was only briefly, and it didn't take away from the story and my enjoyment. War of the Worlds with its setting in the early part of the 20th century and the invasion of a technologically advanced species from Mars speaks to the hubris of the time, but doesn't seem out of place now.

Beautiful copy, only one small problem...
Beautiful copy that I bought as a gift for my brother. Unfortunately, the dust jacket came with a small tear in the top middle section of the cover, not caused during shipping. My brother doesn't like dust jackets anyways, so it wasn't a big issue and I chose not to exchange it. Otherwise, a well-made, beautiful copy of these three stories.
