Simple, high quality, 4 useful grits, and non-slip holders. And boy are these wearing well!
I've had this set of sharpening stones for just over a year now; and while I use them weekly, they wear so well, they still look close to brand new. If you're new to knife sharpening, the angle guide is an easy way to learn to hold your knives at just the right angle for that perfect edge. If you're patient, you can have a horribly nicked, dull knife sharp enough to slice tomatoes so thin that you can read a newspaper through them. If you also get a plain leather hide strop with some polishing compound, you can get even a cheap knife sharp enough to shave with it. Oh, and best of all, these sharpening stones are whetstones...do NOT use oil on these! I put mine under the kitchen faucet set at a bare trickle, spread the water across the stone's surface for a few passes, and it's ready to use. Yes, you can soak them if you want, but it's not necessary--sharpening under a trickle of water is perfect. This kit comes with two 2-sided stones, each with good rubber non-slip bases. You use the 400 grit until you've got a nice edge going, then flip it to the 1000 grit side and smooth-out the edge; this takes only 2-3 minutes, more if you've got a really old, damaged knife. Proceed to the 3000 and then 8000 grit to refine your edge, ending up with a razor sharp edge. If you use a strop afterwards, you can smooth out those microscopic burrs on your edge, giving you a knife that's so sharp, you can cut yourself w/o even feeling it...it's literally like a razor blade. Now, once you've got a good edge on your knife, just touch it up with the 8000 grit stone (and strop) to keep your razor edge. If you're kind to your knives, you can even keep a perfect edge by just using the strop for a few seconds after using the knife. (I find that I can use the strop about 10 times before having to use the 8000 stone for 3-5 passes per side, then it's back to the strop for a few weeks.)The box is really handy for storing these stones; but if you're like me, keep them available so you can easily grab them for quick touch-ups. (If they're boxed up on the pantry shelf, you'll be FAR less likely to fetch them for keeping those knives honed so well.)

Longer life to your knife!
Our knives have been getting dull for way too long, decided, instead of a new set, pay the money for the stones. This was the BEST value and already have 5 knives in my kitchen that cut like NEW! Direction are simple, the guide to help get the right angle was an awesome set of training wheels allowing me to get the feel for where it should be and get the right motion down. With the rubber grips, sleek bamboo holder, made it really easy. For practice I took one of those tiny demo knives given away at the grocery store and was able to straiten out the burs that had been bumped into it and made that cheep knife cut nearly like my more expensive ones! I didn't think that was possible! (gave a longer life to a cheep knife!)I highly recommend this product, nice enough box to store it in once the stones are completely dry, easy to use, convenient rubber holders and a guide to help get that nice edge!

Nice set
The package arrived early the morning after I ordered it. I was immediately impressed with heft and quality of the entire whetstone set. It came with a link to videos on how to use the whetstones, but honestly they weren't that helpful. Luckily there are a lot of sharpening videos available on YouTube.I bought the set primarily to sharpen chisels. I started with a very old chisel that had a very blunt edge. After soaking the stones for 15 minutes in water, I started on the 400 grit stone using a chisel sharpening jig that I purchased separately. I could have saved a lot of work by establishing a rough edge with some 120 grit sandpaper mounted on a piece of glass, but I chose this particular chisel to try because there was nothing to loose. After several minutes, the slurry on the stone began to turn grey and I could see the edge start to come into definition. Probably too quickly I turned the stone to the 1000 grit side and fairly quickly got an edge that would let me easy the corners of some hardwood scraps going with the grain (something that wasn't even close to possible with the rounded edge it had prior to sharpening).Moving on to better chisels, I tried the 3000 grit stone. This put a nice gleam on the existing edges, but I wonder if this stone might be too soft. Time will tell and the kit did come with a flattening device.Overall I'm very please with the set, especially considering that it cost only about $30.

Great whet stone kit for a decent price
The first kit sent by Amazon had 3 corners of the storage box ripped all the way and a puncture hole in the cover. I had it replaced and the second had a slight tear in one corner that I decided to repair with packing tape. I had a few questions so I called the tele number that was on a small card inside. The lady was very nice and said Amazon is supposed to include a users guide and video. She emailed them to me pronto. I told her about the box condition and said I thought it was happening before the box was shrink-wrapped with plastic. She said Amazon shrink wraps it and is supposed to add the instructions and video. She said she needed to call and get those issues corrected. Now on the the performance: I didn't find it too difficult to sharpen with or without the guide. The curved tips of knives and hatches will take some practice. All my knives are super sharp and can slice a ripe tomato so thin you can read thru it. I also sharpened my Kyocera ceramic knife with it and its like new again.I gave it 4 star and not 5 because of the box issue and not having the instructions which seems to be Amazon's fault.

Not for beginners, but great value for experienced.
Came with everything needed to sharpen a knife. Even a very clear how to guide for beginners. The entire kit is well thought out, including the best grit stones needed to get a very fine edge. If your experienced, you can create a very sharp edge. If your a beginner, do be careful, it would be easy to take off too much of your knifes edge. Practice on an old blade you don’t care much for before moving onto a knife you do care about.

Great value - I recommend!
As other reviewers have noted, comes beautifully boxed. I compared a number of different whetstones available on Amazon and this one had everything for a starter like me in one set at a great price. No duty even though coming from the States as it's under $35, and arrived very promptly. I sharpened half a dozen knives yesterday. While I still need to improve my technique, the knives were decently sharpened and there were no issues with the stones (which is the synthetic type). It took me reviewing a few Youtube videos to understand that the aim is to sharpen one side so that a slight burr forms along the edge on the other side, and then you sharpen that side so the burl bends over to the other side, and keep switching sides until burl is shaved off and you have a sharp upside down V on the knife edge. That's my tip for any other beginners.

These stones appear to work quite well. They are sturdy, flat, feel quality. Good experience with them thus far.

Works well
Works well, very intuitive. Package came with some damage as if it had been returned before. Other than that, 10/10. Nice package, nice product.

result is much better than expected
Knife shaper gadget is useless. Result from using this knife sharpener stone is beyond expectations. My set of knife is over 10 years, never been sharpened. The knifer sharpener gadget is no match to the sharpening stone. After couple of strokes on the sharpening store, the knife came out so sharp just like new. Love the sharpening stone.
