Collins Primary Music – Early Years Foundation Stage

An excellent Early Years Music Resource.
I ordered this book for my niece, who has just started her career as an Early Years Teacher. This is a lovely resource, offering helpful strategies to encourage musicality as well as exploring the song themes across all areas of the curriculum. The book is set out in clear sections - ideas for enhancing play, the learning outcomes and the song itself. Based on familiar traditional songs, this is a fabulous teaching resource. The book also contains a CD with the music and songs from the book. This is an excellent resource for teachers, Nursery Practitioners and Home Schoolers.

Scary Music
I struggle to imagine which children would really like this kind of music and songs, to be honest. I think the world is pretty scary as it is without bringing the feeling into the classroom. The music is some sort of doom techno with a twist into a parody on Gothic rock... well, not all songs but a few. Why do that to a child? Childhood is the only time in a person's life when they can let their hair down, finger into their nose and drools coming down freely - why spoil all this wonderful existence by introducing them to an eyeliner and the context of the dark, even in its lightest form of Deine Lakaien (no, they are not on the CD, surprisingly). The idea is nice, the layout of the book is alright, the suggestions are ok, too. But the contents..

good book with a CD, some song is not so ideal
This book is a pretty good resource for early year teacher or music loving parent. It contains a lot of good resources and interesting games. A CD is included. It is also available online. But as many of other reviewers noticed, some of the songs seem to be more suitable for elder teenagers than primary kids. Overall it is a useful book to play music with kids

Good resource but some songs are off
Good book from well established brand. Full of info on how to deliver the new EYFS introduced by the Department for education. Has lots of resources and fun games. Moreover there are links for teachers like me to access more info online. The only thing I found strange was the selection of songs. Some of them are not really age appropriate for children this young. They can be really scary. Also, this book is overpriced for what it is

One song at a time
Collins Primary Music - Early Years Foundation Stage is one of my favorite books. It's so comprehensive and easy to use, plus it's got fun songs that the kids love to sing. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a fantastic resource on teaching music in primary schools.I think the price of the book is high.

Good little handbook
Good little handbook that despite its small size is proving invaluable to our teacher eldest daughter. Four stars.
