It is simple, easy to use and effective.It has three main components, the white outer shell, a black inner shell that has four feet and a water level indicator. The black inner shell holds the soil above the water. It also has plenty of drainage holes in its bottom.In one corner at the top of the black inner shell there is a hole in which the water level indicator resides. Surrounding this is a gently sloped area that has a drainage ring around the water level indicator. Water poured on this area drains into the bottom of the planter.The outer white shell holds the water in the bottom and the black inner shell above that. The black inner shell holds the soil, which stays mostly above the water. The inner shell's four feet are hollow and they do have holes to allow water to pass through, so soil can wick water up to the plant.As water is used by the plant and evaporates from the soil its dropping level is indicated by the white stick in the clear plastic water level indicator.The whole set up is very simple and easy to use. I like it a lot. I only have one complaint. Water poured into the water intake area drains very slowly. You'll have to be patient when filling up the water reservoir.I received this planter at a discount in exchange for my honest and unbiased review and I'm glad I did. This is a simple and well-made, self-watering planter. There's basically nothing to break and I anticipate using this planter for years to come.I recommend it without reservation.
