Definitive Technology SR-9080 15” Bipolar Surround Speaker, High Performance, Premium Sound Quality, Wall Or Table Placement Options, Single, Black

A few years ago, I purchased a pair of the BP-8060STs for my fronts, thus introducing me to the bipolar speaker. I was skeptical, not believing the hype of the bipolar speakers, but that doubt is long gone. When I saw the sr9080s go on sale, I jumped at the opportunity to purchase 4 of them as my side/rear surrounds. I currently have them powered by a Denon x3700h in a 7.1.2 setup and good golly Miss Molly; they are heavy hitters. You can get an idea of the quality of the build when you pick these speakers up. Standing just over 15” tall, they weigh an incredible 13lbs, super beefy. The black finish is sleek and smooth and compliments the product by setting the tone for what you are about to experience. They definitely mean business; pictures do not do the quality of the build justice. I finally got a chance to hook these speakers up yesterday and will say you’ll definitely need a microfiber cloth to clean the speaker from smudges. After the speakers were cleaned, I put them through the paces, testing my favorite demo clips. I immediately noticed how wide the rear sound stage had grown. The sound was crisp and clear, with vibrancy as well. The improvement in the amount of sound alone made this one of my favorite purchases in recent memory. The bipolar speakers have done it once again. I will note that you will have to repeat the calibration process on your receiver to get the most out of these bad boys. I previously had Sony bookshelf speakers, and although I loved them, this was an entirely different experience. It’s still early; time will tell how well they hold up. I’ll have these speakers forever if the build quality is any consolation for how long they’ll last. The speakers came very well packaged in fitted styrofoam. Only one box had a dent in the middle, but it didn’t make any marks on the speaker itself.

A pair of SR9080 completes my 5.1 surround system. It only took me a year to replace all my Infinity Entra One speakers with Def Techs. I finally achieved complete tonal balance and audiophile sound quality. At a total cost of about $5000.00 my system can be considered moderate or slightly above average. The surrounds are a joy to listen to. They are clear, crisp and have enough bass from the BDSS mid/bass speakers balance out the highs from the tweeters. I can only say they improved my movie experience by 100% because they replaced some cheap speakers. They are beautifully designed and look great. Here is the only negative issue with them is there are no rubber feet to set the speaker on. The tops are identical to the bottom. Shinny piano black covers on the bottom.... They should of come with optional rubber feet otherwise the bottom is going to get scuffed up and ugly.

I have a 9.2 system and had been using the def tech SM55s for side channels. They were on stands at ear level and I was more than satisfied with the sound, but wanted to clear up floor space so decided to mount these speakers on the wall and remove the speaker stands. These speakers were mounted a foot or two ahead of the primary seating location and about 8 feet from the floor. The combination of the increased height (compared to the SM55s) and the bipolar design made a remarkable difference. Even my wife commented on how the nice the sound was, and she is not a discerning audiophile! So if you're looking for a powerful, room filling bipolar speaker for your def tech system I highly recommend these speakers. They do not come with any mounting hardware at all so be prepared with a drywall anchor of some sort. The self driving anchors worked great for me but if you're fortunate enough to have a stud then any solid wood screw will work. The owners manual does not provide any type of guidance whatsoever so measure carefully for your drywall cutout.

These are the best surround sound wall speakers I've heard. They reflect the DT quality all the way in clarity and range. The only drawback - and it didn't warrant a drop in star rating - is that I wish they were paintable. I'd like to be able to match them to wall color. The soft mesh covers don't allow for the, unlike the AWR series of outdoor DT speakers (which I also have).

Like an air head I bought one thinking this was the price for two considering the price. I then bit the wallet and bought an other one. These are huge surround sound speakers but they sound amazing. I'm able to hear discreet surround sound elements I was not able to with the small speakers I had before. When listening to music with multi channel turned on these sound better than my actual front right and left speakers. Now I have to replace them because its so obvious. I just placed an order for the Pioneer Pioneer Elite SP-EBS73 Andrew Jones Home Audio Bookshelf Speakers and hope they will do these surround sound speakers proud. I would have gone with the same brand but I needed smallish speakers with dolby atmos and the only dolby atoms speakers from Definitive Technology were too big for my space.

These little guys are great sounding...you will not be disappointed. There is 4 speakers...2 tweeters and 2 additional 4.5 inch mid range speakers in each speaker. These speakers have a high polished top and bottom casing. They are pretty and accent any location you place them in. The only thing you may consider is to put some stick-on rubber bumper feet on the bottom of them. If you crank the volume on these speakers they will vibrate and possibly mar/scratch the bottom of the speaker or the surface they sit on over time...no big..stick-on rubber bumper is about 4 bucks or more for good ones. Get 3/4 inch size..they work fine.

After using adequate speakers for years in a surround sound system used with both home theater and general listening, it was time to upgrade. I researched a variety of speakers from different manufacturers, wanting to obtain a center, two front and two rear surround speakers that matched. Given I don't have an A/V amp that costs the better part of a car, I needed highly efficient speakers with a reputation for delivering quality sound at both low and high decibel ratings. These definitely accomplished that goal - they sounded fine initially, and after break-in they sound fantastic.

Sin mucho que decir de esta marca. Estas piezas funcionan de maravilla para lo que fueron diseñadas, es decir, medio y agudos excepcionales. Son muy grandes, de hecho la uso para activar una configuración dolby Atmos 7.2.4 como canales traseros presenciales. Y antes tenia una Bosé y el Cambio se notó de inmediato con un volumen mayor sin haber hecho ningún ajuste en los amplificadores. La calidad de audio e imagen de sonido es excepcional. Recomendables para sistemas robustos o más grandes al promedio.

After a recent upgrade of the home entertainment box from Starhub, I realized the sound effects from my receiver box is much better. Hence I decided to retire my 20 yr old surround speakers rip out from a prev HTIB set with these speakers. I used the Onkyo receiver auto calibration to recalibrate these new speakers into the system. I played back Ender's game and Edge of tomorrow to test out the surround and I am very impressed with the surround sound. They are so much better and the effects are immersive. They compliment my front old JBL ES80 floor speakers well. The mounting is only a screw behind and I am afraid it might not hold the 5kg speakers if being knocked at or the screw might give way after many years. Hence, I installed an L-shaped metal bracket purchased at $9/pair below the speakers. I believe this speakers will sound better over time like the rest but I am already satisfied with the current sound. Time and money well spent. I would highly recommend this speakers for a home entertainment setup. NB: It is best to buy one at a time to save on the GST.

These speakers are amazingly good for an 8k receiver to pair with... The only thing is because these are sold as a single speaker and the port hole is in the exact same spot instead of opposing spots, so.... To solve the sound interference this creates.... simply turn one of a pair of speakers upside down to balance out this issue. Meaning... when you buy 2 of these speakers... place 1 upright and the other speaker upside down. This is absolutely working for me! Otherwise, so happy with these def techs.

Bought these to complete my 7.2.4 surround .. They are awesome ..
