Millinery: The Art of Hat-Making

One of the best Millinery books on the market that caters for people interested in Millinery
Great book! Thank you for taking so much time to put this together!I pre-ordered this book, so it arrived on date of release. Have had a quick look through and what I already love about already is, people who have an interest in Millinery are put off with the cost of buying wooden blocks, they aren't cheap - but last forever if looked after! However, this book works on the basis on buying one. Then adapting to what you have. Great tips and techniques, some I already knew or had worked out through trial and ERROR! But Millinery is a learning process, the more you do, the better you get. I loved the free form sinamay hat - beautiful - would have loved a whole book on this - but that is a personal wish. They cater for everyone. They include some suppliers and I was pleased to see Paul at Hat Blocks Direct included, he is a true craftsman in block making.

The best book for a beginner
I recently bought 4 books on millinery, all apparently covering everything from beginners to more experienced. This was outstandingly the best of the bunch, and does what it says. One was nearly all fascinators, one used 10 different blocks in the making of 12 hats/fascinators (hardly useful for a beginner) and another essentially had 3 styles, but made it into 12 hats/fascinators with minimal variations on a theme. This is the only book that started simple and got more complex, where all common materials were used, and that showed ways to use 'waste' which was not addressed in the others, but as a newbie is really useful. The styles were all very different, but the major plus about this book is that I want to actually make the hats/fascinators shown, it is stylish and modern but not over-the-top. I would recommend this book to anybody starting out in their millinery journey, and anybody who believes hats/fascinators should be simple and stylish, not a means to show how much you know!

Good Hat book.
Good book for a coffee table to browse through as well as taking up the challenge of making a hat.

Fabulous
Fabulous coffee table book, but also instructive. Very good “how to make” details and explains materials etc that I didn’t know about. Wonderful book if you’re thinking of going on a hat making course.
