The Future is Mestizo: Life Where Cultures Meet, Revised Edition

Rev. Virgilio Elizondo's "The Future is Mestizo" I'm acquainted with and wanted to add to my collection of his writings. I think it's lovely to see ourselves. We see his story as it joins our own too. We are who we are starting with the migration of our own ancestors who began to weave that tapestry and into which we fit as we continue to merge forward.

Fascinating look at the Mestizo's history and background.

I give this book my highest recommendation. It tells a story which the United States of America MUST hear. It calls many of us to come out of our ignorance and look at the historical facts. It is probably more timely today than when it was first written.

Elizondo shares an interesting perspective on "mestizaje".

An interesting book for those into Latin American studies. The author understand the fusion of people (the melting pot) that is taking place here in the US.

The Reverend Father Elizondo presents his native San Antonio as a vibrant bilingual and multicultural city in central Texas on the frontier of the United States and Mexico. He recalls the history of New Spain and how Americans from the east viewed the northern lands of Mexico. From this divide comes a new mestizo, mix, as the Reverend Elizondo poignantly conveys Jesus's life as that of mestizo, a Jew whose very birth was questioned by his mother's people. Our world's history, especially European, is a mixture of people, or, loosely used, mestizo, and so will be our world's future the Reverend Elizondo brilliantly reminds the reader.
