Compact, great speeds, BUT does not work on newer Lenovo TB / USB 3.2 Gen2 ports
Unfortunately, these will not work on some of Lenovo's Thunderbolt3 ports. After getting the same error on multiple newer Lenovo computers (T series, P53), I reached out to FD for tech support. They told me that "Our engineering team said that it looks like Lenovo set a small thunderbolt PDO for USB devices and the external SSD’s power is over the current setting. If so, we cannot fix it because the SSD’s power consumption cannot be changed."This DID work on my Lenovo's sole USB 3.2 Gen1 port, but that is limited to only 5Gbps. The drive had great read/write speeds using my 2021 Macbook Pro. It did get too hot to handle unless you only touch the rubber portion.I ended up returning the drive as I needed it for my Lenovo, but I would still recommend it if you are only using it on OSX or another Windows computer where you can get USB 3.2 Gen2 (10Gbps) speeds. It's extremely small, affordable, and offers great performance.

Giving it two stars because of the build, but it just doesn’t work.
I’ve had this thing for about an hour. I followed the instructions that came with to operate with my MacBook Pro m1 running Ventura. All was fine until I got a message saying “ejected improperly”. After that my computer has not recognized it since. It was connected directly into my Mac port, I’ve tried everything from resetting my SMC to seeing if my girlfriend PC could pick it up. Nothing, it’s just dead. I handle negative reviews for my company and at least we reach out to customers with bad experiences. I have not seen them respond to a negative review on here. If you make a faulty product have the decency to at least support it. Just stay away.

Running VERY hot (and transfer rates from MacBookPro is only 5MB/sec)
This is my second Fantom Drive 4TBThe first is used for video editing with one of the new Mac mini with M1 chip because those are incapable of upgrading the hard drive once to something a video editor would find useful. But, for the new drive that arrived earlier this week.I'm trying to simply copy a 2TB photos library to my 4TB Fantom Drive. The first time I tried this it failed. I was able to successfully format the drive MacOS Extended (Journaled)But, after copying the drive was seen in Disk Utility but not mountable. So, I started over. I erased and re-formatted the drive as MacOS Extended (Journaled) and plugged it into the Mac using USB 3.0 cableThe transfer has been taking hours and what concerns me is the drive is TOO HOT TO TOUCH.I held it in my hand for 15 seconds and had to let it go - its literally that hot.According to the Fantom website it should only be 20 degrees above ambient temperature.I think I got a bad drive.I'm going to quit this and try coping from a different source and see if it makes a difference.

Not reliable
Sometimes disconnects and always overheating, even in standby (not reading or writing)

Faulty drive is not getting support anymore
I’ve had this 4tb drive since Jan-2021, and it’s been faulty ever since. The drive is being used on a PS5 since. The drive goes over a “database rebuild” in some of the power up from rest mode.Initially this happened on all boots, now after a firmware update in the drive and on PS5, it does not happen in all boots, but it’s now happening mid games. The drive heats up too much (burns to the touch) and then it fails.I’ve been taking with Fantom support since March or so, but In the past 3 weeks they went silent. They don’t respond to emails and their ticket url site is not working. For such an expensive drive, I expected more.I’ve had previous product from them without issues and I assumed this would be the same. It’s not.

Microlith
Kubrick made a film once, about the mystery of a featureless object which may appear anywhere, at any time, in iterations of exact dimensions and variable size.Like the monolith, iterations of FD's eXtreme line are relics out of time. This is useful, and needed, as our intentions for new technology always involve the future. To stay current, each tech item we buy must not only be "futuristic", but actually *from the future*.The Mini is styled with a sci-fi mystique, and performs at a level which is not yet normal. Its data rate is surreal and, as with the other eXtreme drive I use, I have no complaint about either its reliability, its utility, or its use. The unit fits 4TB snugly within a pocketable object the size of a cigarette lighter.FD is confident enough to offer the Mini with a 5 year warranty, instead of the usual 3. I plan to use this drive for at least 5 years, and hopefully much longer than that.I think it's going to be a very, very long time before this device seems old…

fast, lightweight and small
After having used other USB3 thumb drives, and FireWire 800 drives, this device is the fastest external drive I have. It has made copying files to other devices faster than using my WiFi, and my wife has also used it to transfer large transcription files between systems, she also said I can't have it back because it's faster than her other external transfer drives. The drive casing is solidly made, and comes with a rubber/silicone sleeve to help it absorb any drops, it should easily withstand daily usage. There is a blue LED that indicates whether or not it is on, and if there is any activity.I had to erase and reformat it for exFat, as it comes NTFS formatted, in order to be able to partition it on OS X. It works flawlessly between OS X and Windows 10.

Well that was fast...
Purchased this on Feb. 2, 2023 and it was easy to set up and use on a Mac running Ventura. A couple weeks ago it began showing messages that it was 'ejected improperly,' even though I did not eject or disconnect it. Those messages increased in frequency over the past few days. I reformatted and now it will not back anything up anymore, and Amazon says it is out of the return window so there is nothing they can do. I can't stand lighting money on fire, so now I will have to spend another few hundred to replace this POS. I will do so at Best Buy or somewhere else. In any event, as this item is unsupported by its manufacturer, I would advise against anyone else making the mistake I made.

Fantastic, stay tuned for updates!
Favorite part is that the rubber casing is reversible so you can essentially ‘seal’ the USB-C port when traveling. I have this and the WD Black P50 & it’s approx half the size although initial tests showed a ~35% slower transfer rate from the WD. All the same, can’t beat it for the price!

Be sure to have a type c site on your computer
Didn't work with an older USB plug but with a type c connector works fine. Gets very hot.

Exceeded expectations
I honestly didn't think this was going to work. I even got a used product to save some money just in case it didn't work. But when I inserted this pcie card in my PC to play PC VR with my Oculus Quest 2 it worked just fine.

FAST FAST FAST
I edit a lot of large RAW photographs. I got tired of waiting for my standard HDD to get around moving files to my SSD C: drive when needed. Got this puppy and it is a world of difference. It isn't instant, but it is the next best thing. Glad these finally exist in the 4TB size. Would buy again.

Very Satisfied and Good Investment/Value
The performance is fantastic, read/write is very fast. For its capacity it is nice and compact. I really like the cushioned band around the edges because it provides a sense of lessened risk when dropped and makes it easier to grip. I bought this to load media mostly video go my Oculus Quest 2.
