Prepper Guns: Firearms, Ammo, Tools, and Techniques You Will Need to Survive the Coming Collapse

got it for free, 10/10 would not get even if it was free.
Sweet Jesus I hate it when I want to read an informative book, but all it does is demonize people and point fingers to blame. All I wanted was to know what firearms, ammo, tools, and techniques I'd need to survive the collapse. I did NOT need 4 chapters of blaming the democratic party and obama.I don't care what your political views are, I just want useful information, and there is pretty much none of it in this book worth digging through to figure out.

Not worth your time
I scooped this up hoping it would be more thoughtful than the fluff written for NRA publications despite the author's background, but sadly that was not the case. This book is exactly what you get when an article for American Rifleman is allowed to truck along for 200 pages. The common thread running through this book is that the author does not really have a lot of reasonable or actionable ideas on how people should fold defensive and foraging tools into their daily lives. Get ready to have it seriously suggested to you that you should spend several thousand dollars on a rifle chambered in .50 BMG so you can shoot out an engine block to stop a car. Because that's going to happen, and it's going to happen pretty early on.The ammunition market's behavior during panics is simply never discussed. In 200+ pages it just doesn't come up.The frustrating thing is that there actually are one or two nuggets buried underneath what amounts to a litany of guns the author has shot a handful of rounds through while on assignment, with more serious experience sprinkled in for the guns he owns. For example, his discussion of .380 pocket pistols is surprisingly level-headed, and the recommendations are mostly sound. But then, while insisting that you need a defensive carbine, he offers zero thoughts on optics. Just nothing. This lack of insight is a foundational problem. People new to preparedness will not find anything useful to leverage here. The political garbage should have been cut, and there is an unbelievable amount of space dedicated to it. The passages reprinted from his awful prepper novel should have been cut. The content lifted word-for-word from an NRA publication in the shotgun section should have been cut.Save your money.

Excellent Gun Primer
Excellent read on guns. Seems to favor Glocks and hates DA/SA pistols. Lots of good info on AR15 and prototypes. Doesn't seem to be a big fan of shotguns and hunting rifles, but says you should have them just in case. I suppose defending oneself from angry mobs is his rationale. I can't fault it. The guy definitely knows his guns. Yes indeed, a great primer on prepper weapons. Overall, some very sound advice and advice worth considering even if you are not a prepper.

Not Just For Preppers
This is a good book that has plenty to offer everyone, whether you're new to firearms, or you've been shooting them all your life. The book isn't really about prepping, but instead talks about the different types of firearms and their purposes, so anyone (preppers included) would have a good list with rationale on the types of firearms that would be worthwhile to own or be familiar with. Also, lots of good color pictures, which makes the book interesting even if you don't feel like reading all the words :-)

The A to Z of Guns
This book has provided me with a wealth of information. The author not only talks about different guns, he goes into details about these weapons. He tells the reader which guns he prefers, and why he feels that way. The history of Glock is fascinating, and his evaluation of the guns very enlightening. I am very familiar with some of the guns he critiques, and his input has been very helpful to me. I highly recommend this book to gun enthusiasts. JRV

Great Overview of Firearms from a Practical Perspective
Towsley does a great job of walking through firearms that are most useful in a prepper scenario. He conveys the importance of being familiar with many common types of firearms very well. The book is an essential overview for the uninitiated. Towsley's humor often wanders into politics that may cause a few eye-rolls if you don't lean right, but the information is solid. That, along with the fact that I found no mention of certain common semi-auto caliber rifles, like the SKS, is the only reason I'm knocking it down to 4 stars. I think i multi-national fabricated rifle with that amount of surplus really shouldn't be overlooked.

Okay for inexperienced folks
Nice book with some good information but if you are experienced with firearms it is more novelty than helpful. As with most firearms books you get the authors biases and I am good with that. Tappan dated book on this subject is still the best book on the subject. I will say that I read and enjoyed the book. I just didn't learn much - could be many years of experience.
