Bountyhunting is a complicated profession
I can understand some people have mixed feeling about the retro collection Mandalorian figures, but I find them generally exciting. Some of the likenesses are quite good, the price point is fair (given where input prices have gone and they blend in very nicely with the old figures So I’m generally pleased to add some new figures in exactly the 1980’s style to my complete, but small collection of cherished 1980’s Star Wars figures. Djin Jarin / The Mandalorian was an obvious inclusion in this Retro line. He looks like a brownish/greyish version of the vintage Boba Fett with cape, as he should. The detail and paint colour is of course much more limited than the Vintage Collection but its sufficient. And of course the moulding is crude. But it all perfectly captures that late 1970’s / early 1980’s pioneer style of action figure making. Obviously the 5 points of articulation are extremely limited compared to how you can pose some of the modern figures, but really I just like to take my figures from the packaging, pose them as a group and recreate some small scenes. My young padawan, if he is allowed to play with them carefully, wouldn’t even notice the lack of articulation. Djin wears a cape that looks a bit stiff compared to the black one that he wears in the series. He comes with both his typical vibe blast gun and a small hand gun, both weapons were not seen before in the vintage collection. Unlike quite a few of my vintage Star Wars figures, this Mandalorian figure, does have legs of the same length and can stand well on his own.The only thing I’m less enthused about is the worn look of the retro packaging, the printed white wear and scratches are unnecessary and I would have preferred present card backs. So, Hasbro would be wise to occasionally treat collectors with some more of these Retro style figures, and not just lame reproductions of existing figures or the multicoloured protocol type ones. The Mandalorian alone could easily fill an other wave; The Client, Bo Katan, Cobb Vanth, the aged Boba Fett. Peli Motto, Fennec Stand. And why not make a classic Retro multipack that includes Xi’an, Mayfeld, Zero and Burg? I understand that with quite some Star Wars streaming and movies productions in the making we will only get a few of these, but it would still be nice.
