Perfect lock system for Air BnB or shared rentals
I absolutely love this product. I wasn't fully sure about how it would work for my specific purposes but let me tell you that it worked exactly like I envisioned. My wife and I started an Air BnB and we wanted something that would eliminate any possibility of needing keys to gain access to the property. I've been the person that has accidentally taken keys and let me tell you, it sucks for both parties when that happens. Loss of business, needing backup keys, etc. This product eliminates ALL of that nonsense and the best part is that it is 100% manageable outside of the property using a home hub system and an iPhone/iPad/Android/Computer. It's actually stunning and extremely simple to setup, install, configure and manage. There was not much detail up front about what you can do with this lock but I can tell you that managing it is exactly what we wanted. The lock by itself is very easy to install. I installed it on a door that had an existing deadbolt that I removed and it literally just went in. Keep in mind that it is tall so ensure there are no obstructions above the hole where the old deadbolt was. My door has glass and it still fit just fine which is great. It came with all of the parts needed except batteries. Note that they do not recommend using lithium ion batteries which is a bummer but OK. Anyhow, the lock comes with a long "master code" as well as a default 4 digit code. The master code is used to program the lock so you can add more codes or change the code behaviors. It's very rudimentary but it is easy to manage and control as a standalone lock. It does come with TWO spare keys in case something goes wrong. For our AirBnB, we keep one key and we hide another key inside a contractors lock box for the "oh sh*t" moments should a client become locked out for any number of reasons. Now to the good part: Using this lock remotely. It's true in that this lock can be used with a home hub system. There are many out there and boy did I have a lot of questions about this since I've never owned a home management system before. I did a lot of research and settled on the Wink Hub 2 product mainly because of its great reviews and also because I read that some users were using this lock with that system. The way this works is that the lock utilizes what is called the "Z-Wave" network protocol. It's built in and you cannot configure it. It's simply a control interface for the lock system. It speaks to the Wink Hub 2 system that is connected to your router @ home then out to the internet where it can be controlled remotely. So now the really good stuff: I'm glad I chose the Wink hub because the interface for the hub is also the interface for the lock. The interface is brilliant. Adding the lock was very easy. The user does need to have that master code so that's a good security measure for sure. Anyhow, once it is added, you can remotely lock and unlock! WOW! In addition, you can add custom key combinations up to 30. You can also add them and have the system remind you via email/text to delete the key. This is perfect for the AirBnB situation because we create codes based on the last 4 digits of customers phone numbers. When they agree to come, we program the lock via our iphones and they have instant access. We can also manage the lock so if a client leaves and forgets to lock it, we can lock it. We can also revoke keys at any time as well. All key management is password protected so people who gain access to your device cannot do key management without a password. Very smart. (That's the Wink Hub there)The system works so well that I am purchasing another one to manage the storage locker on the property.I purchased this deadbolt along with the matching latch handle that does not have a key. They look spectacular together and again, no key needed to gain access to the home. It's the perfect setup for remote lock management. I highly recommend it.

The instructions are not that bad at first sight
Holy hell was this hard to install. The instructions are not that bad at first sight, and I've got a standard door, but there are a lot of little details that if you don't follow them to the letter cause serious angst. It's my fault in the end, I kept installing with the notch in the bar that connects the keypad to the backplate backwards, but it is not intuitive since to get those to line up I had to twist the bolt to the lock position to do so while I had the door open. I've installed other locks in minutes, this stupid thing took me over an hour since I went through other things first like adjusting my door.Programming is also a pain since you have to be at the lock to punch in the programming code to do anything, and I do mean anything. Why have a connected lock if you have to be standing next to it all the time? The good part is that once you actually get it installed it has all the security of a normal schlage lock, feels like it's built like a tank compared to other brands. That said, the app is also horrible and I miss my 2nd generation August lock terribly for features and ease of install.

1) You will need the Wink 2 Hub or the Samsung Smart Things Hub (I went with the Smart Things Hub) ...
If you buy this a couple of important things to note:1) You will need the Wink 2 Hub or the Samsung Smart Things Hub (I went with the Smart Things Hub) The Schlage Sense Hub does not support this lock, I learned this the hard way.2) Download the Smart Things Classic App, not the new version, which currently does not support adding key codes remotely etc...3) Inside of the app, you need to add a "Smart App" to add the key code management functionalityI wish I could have easily found all of this information, it would have saved me a lot of time. One star docked for all the time I wasted dealing with getting a different hub and trying to connect the lock to a hub that did not support this lock.

Works well, but cold made it fail.
I'm glad I bought this for use with the Smart Things hub. I spent a few days without it connected because I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't find the hub. After I finally got through to customer service (over 30 minute wait), I was told that they had to be within 6 feet of each other. This worked out because I had an extra long ethernet cable, but it otherwise could have been a problem. Once it was connected it has worked very well. During our coldest days (in Buffalo), the touch screen didn't work. It is back up and running once we were over 20 degrees.

It does what it says it'll do.
We'll see whether I'm back here in six months complaining that there's a facebook group dedicated to hacking my front door lock, but so far it does exactly what it claims to.And I'll admit I was skeptical, spent a month looking for reasons not to buy it.It was a bolt-in replacement for our previous Schlage locks, it paired to our ZWave hub and my wife can unlock it from the couch (and now i'm doing some zwave code to make other stuff in the house talk to the hub), no notable problems from the keypad being in the sun six hours a day.I will note that you need to make sure which one you want, this one is zwave, the other one is bluetooth. this one talks to zwave compatible home automation hubs, the other one talks to alexa and phones. Make sure you know which one you want.

Great lock. I would give it 5 stars if it were easier to connect to the smart hub. You need to have the lock within 10 feet of your smart hub when you initially pair it. Once it's paired you can have it much further from your hub. Unfortunately I didn't do this, which made the pairing process a real headache. Now that it's connected the lock works great, and I like it much more than the kevo it replaced.

Easy to install and easy to program
Easy to install and easy to program, but I can't get Alexa to recognize it and I can't get the app on my Android phone to connect. I have it set to lock when a nearby motion sensor is tripped, but it only works about half the time. Not sure if it's my z wave or not; there are plenty of devices between it (closest is 3 feet away) and my hub for it to bounce through, but it always locks when I try via my smarthome app.
