OK if you don't need instant read
This thermometer comes in a tube to protect it from shipping damage. You can go to grabyourgoodies.com input your name and email address to get the free cook book it promises. I am not cooking anything in the oven till the weekend. I use the thermometer to measure temperature for tap water, 22C. I then microwave the water for 20 seconds, and premeasures. It takes about 10 seconds to rise to 45C. Before I getting it, I was not sure if I can have the thermometer stayed in the oven during baking. There is no instruction indicate whether it can go into the oven or not. Since the top part appears to be made in plastic, I guess this is not oven proof. In order to use it, I have to pull the dishes out, close the oven, poke it into the food, wait for it ... to measure the temperature. Otherwise, leaving the oven door open and wait for it to capture the temperature will take a while. Basically, you have to wait for the oven to reheat again to go back to your ideal baking temperature if whatever you are cooking still need a little bit time before done. It is around 9" long, similar length to the Chinese take out chopsticks. I am not sure if it is waterproof or not, most likely it's better to hand wash it. It's ok, requires a little extra work but does the job
Uh...so the reviews are kind of right....I wanted to make sure I tried this product a few times before I wrote a review so I could be fair.ODDITIES:- The screen goes in and out/patchy when you first turn it on but eventually stays on the screen after a few minutes-It's about 5 degrees off... I tested in boiling water and ice water-Screen is small and bit hard to see, the one with the light might have been a better choice-I'm not sure how fast an instant thermometer is supposed to read but this one takes longer than a few seconds...almost like a regular thermometer....PROs:-Easy to clean-Consistently off 5 degrees, but still consistent-Can measure reliably even in small amount of liquid (caramel)-Price was reasonable at $10 but it's up to you if you don't mind having to adjust for the temperatureI haven't tried the lifetime guarantee yet, but it hasn't given out in the past month with regular use so we shall see....

Accurate, but not fast
The little tube it comes packaged with is pretty slick. This way you can throw it in a drawer and not worry about it getting broken or dirty. There's a loop on the tube that you can use to hang it up. There is a protecting film on the screen so remove that before use. (It wasn't immediately apparent to me that it was removable.)It says it's accurate to 0.1C/F and it does read in 0.1 increments. I placed it next to my very pricey Honeywell smart thermostat and at room temperature it read within 0.3C of the Honeywell.Next was the boiling water test. I used reverse osmosis filtered water about 2" deep in the pan. Current atmospheric pressure here was 1011.5 mb, so the water should have boiled at approximately 99.96C. The highest I was able to get the thermometer to read was 98.8C. If it truly was 1.2C (2.2F) off, I could certainly live with that. I don't know why you'd need that kind of accuracy on a cooking thermometer anyway! But I think most of the discrepancy could be due to the probe being so long and only the bottom 1.5" was submerged. It might have come out far closer if I had the whole thing submerged, but the tip only is where I'd need to use it, so that's how I tested it.It's easy to switch between C/F with a single button press and best of all it remembers what it was set on last time. The min/max temps are also preserved between uses so you have to remember to clear it my holding down the min/max button for a few seconds. The one thing I don't like about this thermometer is it seems very slow. The update rate is about 5 seconds which is fine, but it takes MANY updates to get up to a stable temperature. For my boiling water test I had to sit there and hold the thermometer for darn near a full minute before the temperature settled down on a decent reading. This is too long in my opinion, and doing so over some hot coals might not be fun. I haven't tested the speed with meat because I'm a vegetarian. Sorry, there's only so much I'll do for a review. :)I received a discount on this item for the purposes of my review. If you found this review helpful please consider clicking the 'Yes' button below. Great BBQ tool. Never overcook your meat again!
We used this to BBQ chicken on the grill. It only takes a second to get the reading. It definitely helped save the chicken from being overcooked, which can happen very fast. I received a large discount to give my honest feedback of this product.
