I was hesitant about buying this because of the reviews. When I was installing, I could understand why people thought that the holes were in the incorrect place. But all you must do is flip the piece around and in the opposite direction and the holes will be on the correct side without the brown showing. Sometimes I feel like people need to take the time to figure out a solution to a problem before giving up. The only reason I'm giving it 4 instead of five stars is because they give you stickers to cover the holes for the screws and it looks very tacky. It should have been little wooden knobs or plastic pieces instead. Also the top had a bit of scuffing but that's fine. If you have a drill you can put it together in just a few minutes.

The one good thing about this unit is that it the dimensions fit my constraints. But I'd gladly pay 50% more for better quality.The edges aren't as clean as one would expect (or at least hope) for a new item, and there are imperfections in the veneer, from both manufacturing and shipping. For the shelf boards at least you can choose the side you want on top, to hide imperfections and/or damage, which I had to do with all of them. You can't do the same for the sides.The item comes packed with the sawdust from the cuts, to the extent that it doesn't seem like the manufacturer does even a cursory job of trying to dust the unit off before packing it.And the hardware is packed in a zip-top plastic bag but the bag is free to move out of its designated spot and scratch up the board surfaces, which happened in my case. A little cardboard box would have been safer.Because of my planned use, the damage is minimal enough, and the quality concerns minor enough, that it's not worth returning, but I would recommend steering clear if you can find something else that works for you.

The holes were not properly pre-drilled along two side but I had already put half of it together successfully. I couldn’t bare the thought of taking it apart to return so I assembled it with nails but a cracked part of the piece (which was thankfully on the bottom). I phoned Whitmor to tell them there had been a significant production flaw (I had assembled other pieces of the furniture with relative ease) but they said they didn’t have any more pieces to replace it. So, it was a complete waste of money!

I love this little bookshelf. I wanted one for my desk surface and it fits perfectly atop my desk, to hold my pens, pencils, erasers, felt markers, scissors, agenda, post-it notes, etc., as well as a few folders I look at daily. My desk is basically clutter free now that I have this little bookshelf. I have not attached it to the wall like they suggest because it will not be moved now that it's in place and it is sturdy as it sits there. It would be a good one for a little kid's room. I'm very pleased with this purchase, it took quite some searching online but I finally found it. Perfect dimensions for my needs, not big like all the others. So very happy I found it. Anything bigger would have been too clunky on my desk and taken up too much room on it. I highly recommend this.

This shelf is perfect for what I needed it for. It’s also a reasonable price unlike other particle board shelves. Was easy to build even with one person.
