For in-the-courtroom action
I've enjoyed legal thrillers ever since reading Agatha Christie's Witness for the Prosecution years ago. Read some Philip Margolins (Heartstone is great!), John Grishams, Michael Connelys, and Steve Martinis, but eventually realized that you don't always get lots of realistic courtroom action in the genre called legal thrillers-- you might get lawyers running for their life (The Firm), lawyers in precarious situations (Presumed Innocent), lawyers with superhero skills forcing confessions from witnesses on the stand (Perry Mason). LETHAL DEFENSE IS REALISTIC, GENUINE COURTROOM DRAMA. We don't get there till about halfway through, but that's a good thing, because we learn the characters and the situation and the world of the novel first. Recommended highly to those who relish witnesses giving testimony, attorneys cross examining them, judges coping with judge stuff, evidence, juries, and everything else that makes up a trial.

Great Read. Highly Recommend!
Very excellent Court Room Novel. I did see the end coming after the coroner was interviewed. But I don't want to spoil the ending for anyone. It's a great read, and I highly recommend it. I'm also going to buy the next Nate Shepherd Book titled: "True Intent" Keep writing those court room books Mr. Stagg and I'll keep buying and reading them. Thanks!

Stiff competition for Grisham
A really great read. Lots of detail to help you get a visual of the characters, but not too much. I am excited to continue reading the series.
