Retract-A-Gate Stair Banister Adapter Kit, 36" Tall, Café

Works great! The instructions weren't very clear, but once we figured it out it was a piece of cake. My husband put a little block of wood underneath it what you can see in the photo, which is not necessary but just for his own peace of mind, because we just had the banister installed and he didn't want it rubbing on the wood. Works great, sturdy when installed.

Overpriced for what it is, especially after what we spent on the gate. But did the trick. Buy the zipties at lowes and fashion your own banister kit.

As you are reading reviews deciding whether or not to buy this gate, consider the complexity of your banisters. This was easy to install after the first one (we installed four), but two of the banisters were too wide for the zip ties so we had to modify the installation. Two of the gates required molly bolts. So just think about there might be extra steps. They’re perfect for what we’re after, though I’m not convinced my boy won’t scale them...for now, the best solution both top and bottom for stairs.

I’d recommend this piece to accompany the retract-a-gate, it really saves the banister. Not the most sophisticated looking set up (it’s plastic and zip ties) but it works great and is very forgiving (you can move the brackets once you’ve installed the gate). For what it is and the price of the gate, it should come included.We ended up ordering a second mounting kit so that we can move the gate to the top or bottom of our stairs, as needed.

Looks good. Easy to use and install. Very sturdy if installed properly.

Love this gate for our 17-month old active grandson! Keeps him safe and so easy for us to open and close.My husband said it was easy to install too and he did it very quickly!

I like the gate with the stair adapter and the stair adapter was easy to install but after a year of use, one of the zip ties securing the gate randomly broke.I had spares to replace it with but was very unsettled by the event and the response from the company which expressed no explanation or concern for this occurance. It was by pure luck I noticed, and I don't trust the gate's strength nearly as much anymore due to the zip ties for the stair adapter.

This add on piece is good for the stairs and prevented us from having to make holes in our banister. You could probably improvise with a piece of wood and some screws if you're handy, but if don't have the skill set (or in our case the time!) this will certainly do the trick!
