Great
This is an amazing story. One everyone should read! It’s a real heartbreaker and a tear jerker but it will not leave you disappointed!

Well Written in Appalachian Vernacular
This book was very well written and the author did an excellent job with the Appalachian vernacular (I grew up there, so I’m qualified to make that assessment). Although accurately representative of life in the early 20th century, the story itself was somewhat depressing, as poor Bertie lived a life of tremendous hardship and sadness. I was very satisfied that it ended on a high note…

Healing Grace
This book is so sorrow-filled, but it is a testament to the power of our will. God's grace is always with us, we must listen to Him rather than our own troubled thoughts.

Heart wrenching
Heart wrenching story; slow at times, but hopeful/happy in the end. Would recommend to those that understand strong family ties

Survival & Triumph
Unusual story of survival in Apalachin poverty in a time when so many were struggling. Through the trials and tribulations the reader leans to be appreciative of living today in our abundance.

Outstanding!
I loved this book and wanted more. Wish there was a sequel. Another reviewer said that it was about the good, the bad and the ugly in all of us and I agree. Such raw emotion and it all felt sincere and real. I do not give 5 stars lightly but this was one of the best books that I have read in a long time and I read a lot. So glad it came my way! Sadly, I was unable to find other books by this author.
